Ok, so, i read the booklet last night and have a couple questions.

They show 3 types of regimens, classic, double and lean.

I am not really interested in building "guns" or having a 6 pack, but i certainly want to significantly increase my core strength, lean out, and lose weight. Anything other than those 3 is a bonus.

Why are there no plyometrics in Lean??  Can you substitute something with Plyo?

I also will be riding and running, obviously shoulder back days would be good for those, what about the stretch X or yoga X days??  Are those days even necessary??

Am i wasting my time thinking about plan modification??

ill leave it at that i guess, just a little confused.

I have done multiple rounds of the X and have always done Classic. My take is that the Lean rotation was created to try to appeal to women who might be intimidated by Classic, or who need that mention of Lean in the title to get them sucked in. I don't find it nearly as well rounded as the Classic, which can accommodate anyone..... So, clearly, I'd recommend Classic!

If you want to incorporate Swim/Bike/Run as well, I would follow the Doubles rotation if you think you can. If you don't want to regularly do 2 workouts per day, you can easily sub a high intensity workout for PlyoX (although that is a GREAT workout, so make sure to do it sometimes!), and you can sub a steady state aerobic workout for KenpoX. I would HIGHLY recommend that you keep YogaX. You might hate it at first, think it's too long, too hard, blah, blah, blah, but it's VERY good for you, acts as another strength workout but in a different way, and REALLY helps with soreness.

I always have intentions of doing StretchX and it is a good stretch workout, but usually I just take a full rest day..... Either is fine.

Hopefully that helped a little! Feel free to ask more questions!!!!!

I never thought I would enjoy the Yoga X disk, yes it seems long and slow and at 90 minutes it is.  But got I feel so relaxed after I think it's totally worth it.  After the 1st time I felt like I had just gotten a massage.  It's also a challenging workout.  I would recommend it.

As far as lean vs classic, I wouldn't worry too much about getting too ripped with classic, if you're worried about it do lighter weight and more reps.

Started on Monday and wooo-eeeee that plyo workout was awesome!
I liked that they had a alternate "bad knee" version, all though I did skip a few because it still felt weird on my knees.

Really looking forward to the rest, and especially the results

Did anyone else take a "before" photo?

@ rudedog - I am doing a hybrid version of p90x with the 2nd, 4th and 6th days for running and swimming. These are substituting for plyo, yoga and kenpo. I have every intention of doing stretch x on sundays but we shall see LOL

@lisaac - I took a before photo LOL not sure I want to share though. Maybe at the end.

Shoulders and arms today, woot woot

@ Chase  yeah, once i get power back at home, i think i will do the same, except i want to do the plyo, seems like i will have a lot of doubles. With p90x in the am and trainer rides or running in the evening like i do now.  What do you use for a chinup bar??

@Lisa, yes i have before Tri pics at 260lbs, and i have a before p90x pic at 216lbs, my goal is a non-clydesdale 190lbs. I don't think anyone should be subject to the first, the 2nd isn't too bad, i look forward to the third.

Wow you are doing so great!
I will make you all a deal, at the end of the 90 days we will all put up before and after pics?

I won't pretend to know what it's like to need to lose more than 20lbs, but I weigh a good 15 more than when my avatar was taken.

We can do it!

So I am in week 4 of my P90X training.  And some days have gone better than others.  But I did have my wife take before photos.  My expectation was that I would simply have these photos digitally on the computer.  But to my dismay she actually got the photos developed.  I feel sorry for the photo tech at Walgreen's who had to develop those pictures.  Hopefully the ending photos will be much better.

Congrats everyone so far! You won't regret doing it at this time of year.  I started on 11/30/09 and you can see my 90 day results below.  35 pounds and 1/2 my body fat lost - at the age of 40.  But realize that nutrition is AT LEAST 50% of your results.  Message me if you have any questions about the P90X nutrition plan.  I've done P90X classic, doubles, and lean.  I started round 5 yesterday.

FYI there is a NEW iPhone app launched today.  IMO (and I'm a Beachbody Coach for full disclosure) it's a rip off for JUST the log at $4.99 (not the workouts necessarily)  Here's the link if interested: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/P90X/id425192079 For logging workouts and downloading if you travel any.  The before picture is of me doing Escape From Alcatraz.  I was actually 10 pounds heavier by the time I started P0X but wouldn't allow any photos to be taken before!

YOU can do it.  BRING IT!

Hey! I did a warm up week last week and this week is my official first week! Just finished up shoulders and arms this morning!

What distance tri can you train for while doing p90x?

I think you could easily train for Sprint / Oly distances while also P90Xing - I'd do some changes to the schedule, like swap out Plyo for a hard interval bike/run day (as much as I love Plyo, you just can't put it ALL in while simultaneously training for tri), swap out Kenpo for long bike or run, etc. You'd have to see what would really work for you. Maybe also stretch it out so a week of P90X is longer than 7 days - perhaps only do 2 strength workouts / week. Just listen to your body and adjust accordingly.

Andi - WOW. I know I've seen your before/after pics before, but that really is just incredible girl!!!!!

I'm in Phase I, Week 3 right now - Plyo last night. I really, really, really just love the X, and love Tony as a trainer. This is such a great program. I'll never tire of it.

How's everyone else doing????

I'm training for a 50K and doing P90X at the same time... only in week 2 but I did skip a few P90X workouts last week in fear they would interfere with my long run.

Have any of you done something similar with P90X + high volume running? I'm specifically concerned about the leg workout affecting my long run.

Just shuffle around the strength workouts to put the leg workout farther away from your long run - is that possible? Perhaps swap C&B with L&B (assuming you would do L&B on Friday and your long run on Sunday). That said, have you tried it as designed yet? Often I'll feel sore when I first start out running (soreness from the Leg workout), but once I'm warmed up, I'm totally fine and don't feel that my run was impacted at all.

starting a p90x routine today!  i have two resistance bands but that's about it.  I was thinking about asking for a set of weights from Santa, would the bands work to get me through the first month?  thankfully christmas and new years fall on sundays which are rest days! also, i eat pretty healthily so thinking of just continuing what I'm doing and not following the nutrition plan.  any thoughts/advice?

I think it depends on the workout.  I have a set that I've been using and for some workouts it's not out of the question for me to use 2-4 different bands.  I'm using these and bought a second set of handles. http://www.amazon.com/Black-Mountain-Products-Resistance-Exercise/dp/7245456313/ref=acc_glance_sg_ai_ps_t_7

Certainly cheaper than buying a set of weights.

Thanks!  I have a set of bands now, well two, and I don't like the stretchy cover on the outside.  I will probably end up with a set of those.

Next question - if I wanted to get really ambitious and run bike or swim two or three times a week additionally, would it be best to do it on the mornings of my cardio routines or strength routines (I do P90X after work)?

When I add swim/bike/run to an X rotation, I do one of two things. I'll either sub a swim/bike/run for Plyo or Kenpo, and simply do a single workout on that day. Or, I'll do doubles on the strength days. I used to do the strength workouts in the morning, but that was really just personal preference. I think you would be fine doing the swim/bike/run in the morning and the strength at night.

well, after a month delay, i started p90x this morning, i did the chest back workout.....OH MY GOD

my arms/shoulders are still like rubber, i think if i had eaten prior to the workout i woulda thrown it all up on the floor, haha.

when i took a shower, i had a hard time washing myself and holding onto the soap and washcloth, LOL

my upper body has certainly gotten weaker with all the biking running i have done, i think this program will be a nice way to equalize muscle imbalances.

personally, i think Tony Horton will become annoying in the next few weeks, but gotta give the guy props, he is a freaking machine and looks strong as hell.

Rudedog,

LOL!!!! I hate to tell you, but tomorrow will likely be worse in the way of soreness. I remember the first time I did the X I had to bend over to wash my hair because I simply could NOT raise my arms above my head, I was that sore!!!

That said, don't skip any workouts this week - it will seem impossible to believe, but Shoulders & Arms in 2 days will really help to loosen up those sore Chest/Back muscles.....

NICE WORK!

well, 3 days later and my upper body still hurts like freaking hell!!!

I will say, i did the plyo this am, and found it to be rather easy all things considered, shows the typical muscle imbalance between upper and lower body of a triathlete!!

it was a good workout, but not leaving me feeling like a rubber chicken. i rater enjoyed it. shhh don't tell Tony.
