Subject: New cycling team "headed by Contador"???
Say what? I just came across a picture in Yahoo's Cycling section, that has this caption:

".... shows 2007 Tour de France winner and Kazakh cycling team Astana (AST)'s leader Alberto Contador of Spain (L) shaking hands with Spain two-time Formula One champion Fernando Alonso. Alonso is planning to set up a cycling team headed by Contador, sports daily Marca reported on July 13, 2009.

I think I also saw an article about this in Velonews. It makes sense, if Lance is going to stay with Astana next year as the team leader or whatever team Astana turns in to. Personally, I don't think it was the best move by Bruyneel to have Contador and Lance on the same team in the same race. I can understand Bruyneel's point of view in that he wants the best team, and certainly with Contador and Armstrong he has that. However, it's not fair to either Armstrong, Contador, or the team to have to choose sides in who they will support.

I hope the Contador-lead Spanish team happens.

Was it just me or was Alonso looking a little to friendly upon Alberto? I bet their interested in forming a team, im sure they'll get along great.

It'll be easy for me to root against them, don't care much for either one. Maybe Button will start a team with Wiggo, at least Button is a triathlete.

In another article that I read on a motorsports website it said that Alonso had been hanging out with the Cervelo guys going on rides. Either way I think it would be cool for him to set up a cycling team, must be fun to be a young multi-millionaire.

That's strange, I would've thought he'd hang with a team that had spanish-made bikes like Orbea (ok basques) as opposed to the Canadians (Cerve'lo- is the e' supposed to be like Eh?)

Good point.  Maybe that's why this is coming out now so Astana supports him more...or maybe that's backwards and they'll support LA more...who knows.

Vino making his announcement when he did is funny to me too.

I can't remember where I heard it, but I heard a rumor Contador was moving to Caisse d' esparnege.

Forgive the spelling.

I agree it isn't really fair to have them both on the same team.  I like Lance, but Contador has earned the team leader role in recent years.

I wonder how Valverde would feel about that! (Although given that he's on a suspension right now, he may not have much say.)

The TdF is the biggest race of the year and every cycling fan is watching.  That's why Vino made the announcement when he did.

TDF 2010 will be the battle of Lance and His LiveStrong/Nike team against Contador and what ever team he is on.
