What do ya'll think of this FRS Energy Supplement business?

FRS Site

I know Lance Armstrong endorses it, but has anyone tried it?  Is it legit?  The only thing that kind of bothers me it that it has caffeine in it, and if you wanted to use caffeine on race day, it's not helpful to consume it on a regular basis.  Obviously.  And the site doesn't say how much caffeine there is.  Anyway, if you know anything about it, I'd love to hear some opinions.

Yeah, I like the fact that it's made nearby but I swear it just doesn't good at all and I'm not picky at all. I've tried a lot of these kinds of drinks and I think FRS is worst of the lot.

I find it hard to believe that he actually drinks this stuff.

Not saying he doesn't actually drink it, but I think there is a good chance that this is the case. A lot of UFC fighters pretend to drink once of their sponsor's drinks when actually they're empty cans. Professional motorcycle racers pretend to drink an energy drink when actually they are just drinking water. Some people are sponsored by "energy" drink companies yet make a point to tell people they never consume caffeine.

No ADDED caffiene. It's made with guarana, green tea, and yerba mate, all of which are well known sources of caffiene.

Lance has an ownership stake in FRS.

Not sure what the point is about caffeine.  You can get Hammer Gel with caffeine, Infinit with caffeine.  Ultra endurance people will eat chocolate covered coffee beans during a race.
In stage races, you'll see guys grabbing a can of Coke in the last several miles.
Caffeine is the original performace enhancing drug Laughing

IMO - Some of the FRS flavors taste like vomit, and smell like it too (sorry)... I've tried one of the berry ones that wasn't so bad... But all in all I try to stay away from the canned energy stuff..
I'll take a diet coke or a cup of coffee if I need a burst of energy.....

i think it tastes gross. it kinda works, but it always makes me jittery and my stomach do weird things, which is the last thing i need on any ride, run, or swim. i never work out with an energy drink in my system, so idk about all that stuff

its ok. not worth the money tho. but then i only have the powder, and i've heard that it tastes better in the can. order the sample kit, and see how you like it.

I just saw a can at Rite-Aid...it is something like 46mg of caffeine per serving. I saw a regular version, with 32g sugar and a low calorie option, 5g sugar. It said there is one type of antioxidant in it...equal to the amount in 10 servings of raspberries. $2.49 per can...no thank you. I'm sure raspberries taste better!

I pay for a subscription to a research review service, and the studies FRS uses are dubious, headed by the company's head scientist.

BTW, faster amino absorption does not mean it is better, aminos absorbed faster than teh body can use are simply burned up as energy.

Exactly - but it's only really performance enhancing on race day if you don't drink it the rest of the time.

Sorry, meant to say all natural live nonaddictive caffeine. It's important if you are watching what you put into your body like RedBull, etc.

Caffeine is a stimulant, and can be addictive. I don't think it matters where it comes from (coffee, tea, yerba mate, coke, redbull, etc.).

Have not tried the stuff, have not tried any of the energy drinks actually.  I just use gels and beans myself.

Why are you all down on caffeine, there is nothing wring with caffeine provided you are not main lining it.

I am no scientist, but I have read more than one study that says caffeine can enhance performance for endurance events.
It has little to do with whether you drink it regularly or not.
However, I also share the opinion that if you are not a regular user of caffiene, you will "feel" the effects of caffeine more readily.
Also, as to the OP, FRS is nasty tasting. I rather have a nice iced coffee. Caffiene makes me feel less sleepy and natural anti-oxidants. YUM.

Actually there is NO DIFFERENCE between "natural" caffeine and anhydrous caffeine that is added to energy drinks. Caffeine is the same molecule regardless of its source.

And that means that "natural" caffeine has the same addictive properties as anhydrous caffeine.

I hear it's the coke in Red Bull that's addictive

I got the samplepack of FRS and then I continued to order it for the past 2 months, but I'm not sure I will keep doing that. At first I thought that it really worked. Supposedly the caffine is just to help the body absorb all of the antioxidants. And the antioxidants are so concentrated that you would have to eat gallons of bluberries or whatever to get the same benefits. God I would hate to see me try to run after eating a gallon of blueberries!!! Yikes! Anyway, I felt like the FRS really was fantastic at first. I did not notice any type of charge or jittery feeling, I just did not feel tired at all. I felt wide awake but in a very natural way, if that makes any sense. Lately I have not noticed the same feeling, so I am wondering if that was just how I was feeling at that time. I'm not really a coffee girl so I had switched to a glass of FRS in the morning. I bought the concentrated kind that you just mix with water. The taste was not amazing, but now disgusting. ::shrug:: I'm not sure what I will do. I don't love it anymore, but I don't have anything I prefer in it's place.
