Pre-race routine:

ate a cliff bar at home and drank a powerade
Event warmup:

This was a training race event sponsored by our newly formed tri club: www.vulcantri.com

TeamMagic used us as guenia pigs to try out their new clip timing system. This was quite un-expected and only a few of us volunteered.

There were three separate race distances established. 600yd, 18 mile, 4 mile

200yd, 12 mile, 2 mile and 100 yard, 6 mile and 1 mile

GREAT training experience for beginners AND I'm including myself in that!
Swim
  • 13m 6s
  • 540 yards
  • 02m 26s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim was good for me. I liked having a large area roped off to swim in the course for the 600yd group was down and back 2x. It was technically 140 yards instead of 150 thus I recored 540 yards. I bumped into people and folks bumped into me, but everyone used great swimming etiquette.:)
What would you do differently?:

I would go under and get my face and head wet before the race started. The cold water took my breath away and it took me awhile to recover from the intitial shock and start breathing normally.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

I'm not sure that our transitions were fully recorded. There was only one mat so it was like "home base" and you had to cross it after the swim, before the bike, after the bike, before the run and at the finish.
What would you do differently?:

I forgot to put on my visor for the run, but the path was shady.

We layed our bikes and gear on a grassy bank that was at a slight incline, that didn't make for a sturdy place for me to stand one legged and put shoes on and off while my legs were shaky. Matt, the tri club president took some goofy pictures of me during T2 telling me to pretend like I'm falling (I'm thinking I am) and then he coached me to make a goofy face (and again, I'm thinking I am!) We shall see.
Bike
  • 00m
  • 18 miles
  • 0.00 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

Train more on the bike instead of just going to spin class.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Run
  • 41m 3s
  • 4 miles
  • 10m 16s  min/mile
Post race
Warm down:

Gatorade, cleaned up transition area, then took a quick shower before the cookout.

Event comments:

Lots of fun! Met lots of folks doing Memphis in May. That is B'ham TNT event this year and also confirmed a room at the Marriott downtown and am sharing a room with Angie.

cookout was lots of fun. Spin instructor/tri coach did the swim with us.

Course: up the Peavine Falls road...up hill 1/2 the course. I was familar with this portion of the course because I did the Peavine Falls 4th of July run last year, but it was an 8.25 mile out and back. It was shady the whole way, and loved the down hill leg. My run is slow and I'm worried about doing an Olympic distance in 2 weeks!
