Isn't your result positively correlated to the effort/time you put into training?

If that is the case, why do people seem to constantly ask strangers to give them guidance regarding their possible results?

Get out there swim, bike, and run and find out what you are capable of achieving....you are the only limiter to how much you can improve.

Cheers,
L

If you're taliking about time/speeds, yes it is.

If you're talking about place in the standings, not necessarily, it really depends on who else shows up.

Asking strangers for guidance in this regard is no odder than posting rhetorical questions, IMHO.

Cool

While your closing sentiment is spot on, the vast majority (i'd dare say all) of these types of questions come from people brand new to the sport who rightfully have no idea how their training performance stacks up to a race performance.  I choose to give such posters a pass, as they are merely curious as to how they fit in.  A lot of times newer racers are nervous about whether they can finish, place, etc.

I'd say if the posts bother you, you should not open them

Perhaps a website called beginner triathlete - with a forum called "triathlon talk" - isn't the best place for you, beyourself.
