Anyone doing this race? I'm looking forward to seeing what an all women's race is like - I hear it is very supportive.  I did the Guelph Lake Try-a-Tri in June and I'm hoping to improve my time.  I've done a few run-throughs on the course at Kelso and it feels like the run will be hard (very steep hill at the start of the run!).

I began my first tri experience with the Ontario Women's group (about 5 years ago) and yes most definitely a wonderful supportive group.  They used to have I think 3 tri events but have only one now.  I have done the Kelso tri and really loved the atmosphere.  You will have a good time I'm sure.  Good luck!!

I'm thinking about doing the sprint but it will be a last minute decision as I'm on vacation next week with no opportunity to train... depends on how I feel closer to the date.  I've never done a womens only event so I'm curious too.  What's the water like?  Any hills on the bike?  I've heard there is a huge hill in Milton that promises to challenge but I don't know if it was this race or another...

I did a weight watcher's one at Kelso years and years ago.  I remember the bike being hilly (but I didn't train much back then) and there was one hill on the run that I had to walk down and walk back up it was so steep.

I don't remember anything significant about the swim - so that's good.  (I remember if the water was stinky or if there were a lot of weeds!)

trisprintolympic and I will be doing the OLY (although we have to sort out some waffling fist).

An all ladies race should be really cool.

Silverwolf - thanks for the heads-up on the hills!!!!

The Sprint bike course has the "6th Line hill" which is a doozie!  I'm only doing the SST so thankfully I won't have to tackle that (this year).  The run is rolling hills with a couple short, steep climbs and one steep downhill.  Thankfully I've been practicing more hills in the last two months - at Guelph Lake I was totally unprepared for how hilly the run was!

I still have to register but I am planning on the super sprint - all about the swim. Gotta get over the fear! Apparently the women's race does not use the same course with the crazy hill that the subaru Milton tri does - i think that's what a friend who's done it said ...

Actually I'm thinking I'll pull the plug on this one.  I've been so lazy this week and next week I'll be at a cottage alone with two 6 year olds = no training AT ALL!  Hopefully I'll return with sound mind and body but not enough time to feel ready for a sprint.  Maybe a last minute mini-sprint but will be a last minute decision.  Good luck to everyone planning to race!!

Looking at the route maps, I beleive that you are right (the Women's race doesn't do the Sixth Line hill).  The bike route for the Women's race doesn't make the turn onto Sixth Line - it continues on 5th Sideroad (at least, I think that that is the name of the road) and then turns around.

Frankly, the hills on the run may be more of a problem.  My memory is that the path from the water up to road is a rather steep uphill (I've not done either triathlon, but I have gone to Kelso for open water swim practices).

Yes, I did the bike leg of the sprint last year, and it did not include 6th Line hill. I believe that is part of the Subaru route.

I am 100% going to be there doing the OLY. Am not going to drown and actually might try to kick instead. I'm really looking forward to it.

How did your event go?  Guelph Lake 2 had better weather than Guelph Lake 1!

What a fantastic day!  The weather was fabulous - sooo much better than Guelph Lake 1!   I really liked the atmosphere of a smaller women's race (very supportive).  I blew away my expectations for the SST and finished 14th in my AG (33rd overall).  Just the boost I needed to gain the confidence to move up to Sprints for next season (need some swim coaching though!).

I was there with a group of about 20 moms that trained for 16 weeks for this race and we all had such a great time and it was great to see everyone at the finish line cheering at the women on!

It was a great day!  What a challenging course (bike and run portions).  I am definitely going back again next year to see if i can tackle those hills faster!!!!

Would have enjoyed the ST better if they hadn't misdirected us on the bike portion.

Based on everyone's bike computers we did about 23km rather than 20km.   Based on looking at the maps (versus what we actually road), they had us doing the wrong turn around going out to Peru Road we should have turned once we hit Peru, instead they directed us to a turn around about 1.5km down Peru).  We did what should have been the turn around for the first loop of the Olympic course.

That and the fact that T1 and T2 are both included in the bike makes for some sad looking bike times/paces.

I was in the SST. Really enjoyed it! I was so happy to get through the swim that i was smiling like an idiot for the rest of the race. What a beautiful day - and some challenging climbs!
