Total Time = 1h 22m 26s
Overall Rank = 37/114
Age Group = M, 40-44
Age Group Rank = 5/8
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 0645 and had oatmeal and toast for breakfast, along with water. Mocha on the way to the race.
Event warmup:

Got there in plenty of time to register, set up my transition, and warm up this time. After setting up transition, I did about a mile and 1/2 on the bike just to shake the cobwebs out, then ran about 5 minutes which took my right up to the start time.
Run
  • 29m 45s
  • 3.75 miles
  • 07m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

The run went about like I wanted it too. Tried to take it a little easy just to save some for later but still keep a decent pace.
What would you do differently?:

Not much...maybe go a little faster and worry about later....well...later!
Transition 1
  • 01m 38s
Comments:

The transition was longer today than last time I did this race. The bike racks were moved and it was a longer run off the run course to the racks and then from the rack to the start of the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 28m 1s
  • 10 miles
  • 21.42 mile/hr
Comments:

Hammered the bike! Nuff said! Passed a lot of people on the bike to make up for my sorry run pace!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 2
  • 01m 52s
Comments:

We had to dismount the bike even further from T2, run across the road, across a gravel parking lot, and into transition. Probably about a 60 yard run in bike shoes on pavement and gravel...not ideal.
What would you do differently?:

Not much to do differently with this transition setup.
Run
  • 21m 9s
  • 2.5 miles
  • 08m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

My calves cramped up pretty good in the first 1/4 mile and I had to stop and stretch for a bit so lost some time there. Then had to run a little gingerly for the next 1/4 mile until they loosened up completely. Not too bad a run though. A little out of gas but ok really. It was starting to get really muggy though by this time. About 70 degrees with 100% humidity which we usually don't have.
What would you do differently?:

Not cramp up!
Post race
Warm down:

Ran about 1/2 mile slow to work out the kinks.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need to do more running speed work. It's getting better but not near where I want it to be.

Event comments:

Took about 7 minutes off my time from a month ago on the same course, with longer transitions so I was happy with that. Fifth in my AG which isn't too bad since I outweigh most of them by at least 40 pounds. Had a good day.

Overall: 0/114
Performance: Good
Course: 1 and 1/4 mile lap course that is mostly like a X-country course. Only about 300 yards is on pavement, the rest is on grass and VERY uneven trails. Because of all the rain we've been having the grass sections were mostly swamp today which made the start rather interesting...LOTS of splashing and mud flying around! The rest of the run wasn't too bad except for the uneveness of the trails. Lots of ankle twisters that you have to watch out for.

Nice race Stan.  You certainly hammered the bike portion - 21.42...oh my !!!  Sounds like the muddy start was INTERESTING!  Congrats on a great race!
