is anyone else's training schedule being interfered with by the file out in Glendora?  over here on the westside, the air appears to have cleared up a bit in the last hour, but it was pretty nasty most of the day.  i really feel for all of you guys out in the pasadena area, it must be terrible.

Disney team cancelled their weekly Griffith Park ride due to the smoke.  I was going to meet my wife there to do the ride anyhow (since she took her bike and gear to work today for that purpose), but she got scared off by the haze in the air in Burbank.  So I guess we're going to ride west in the flats to Encino when she gets home instead.  I'm home in the Sherman Oaks area now and, if no one had told me there was a fire, I'd never have guessed.  Can't smell anything here...can only see haze aloft.

If it burns GMR and the ridge road, that's really going to suck.  One of my favorite climbing routes.

I think it's already burning along East Fork. Chances are it's gonna burn up the hill to GMR and GRR. Boo!! I love those climbs too

So far so good in Long Beach. When there are Santa Anas, the smoke always funnels our way, but not this time...so far! Be careful out there!

We live way down in South Torrance.  There's a direct line of sight thru a small canyon to downtown and the San Gabriels beyond.  Last night from our back window we could see a line of fire engines flashing way in the distance, looked like they were suspended in air... eerie.

Now I can see the flames in the San Gabriels.... and there's a fire above Trump golf course just south of us (We're well out of the way, but can see the news choppers out our front door)

GMR is closed due to fire.  So is Angeles Crest, so nobody in the Pasadena/SGV area will be climbing our local routes this weekend.  It is smoky but not as bad as Wednesday.  I have a sore throat.  Stay inside everyone.

If you like to watch forest fires, please watch on TV or Internet.  RPV and Angeles Crest have had trouble with looky-loos blocking evacuation ... last year we had the same problem during the Santa Anita fire, and (especially for someone like me, who lives at the very top of the road), it was NOT fun.

The weather has been good here in the Antelope Valley.

However, the we are close to one fire, so if the wind changes direction...

Email Justin if you want to set up a ride.

Cut short run yesterday due to heat and haze.  Sore throat last night afterwards.  Looks like a trainer ride today...smoke (and ash) has finally made its way into central SFV.

And it is starting to look smoggy out here now too.

I did not smell smoke, but the desert does not get hazy for no reason.

South OC is hazy and a little smoky which is odd. Maybe smoke from the PV fire? I think i'm headed to Mt Palomar tomorrow to ride in clean air-

Ouch, we were going to spend two days at San Onofre.
Do you know how it is there.

I am completely smoked out now.
Keeping kids inside until we leave tomorrow.

Ended up saying "HTFU" and did a bit over an hour around Lake Balboa...heat (100F at 5:30pm) was bigger deal than smoke today, but I definitely smelled the smoke around mile 12 of the ride and had a scratchy throat by the end.

I live in Glendale, at the bottom of Chevy Chase Canyon, and haven't been able to go out side to train for the last 3 days. I tried riding my bike on Friday, and my lungs and throat were hurting/Burning after 10 or 15 minutes. I'm pretty bummed. I woke up this morning hoping I could get a ride and a run in. And it's worse than ever. According to AQMD it's hazardous.

Really needed to get in a run of at least 9 miles today and went ahead and did it (9.6 miles, twice around Lake Balboa).  99 degrees out and the smoke made the golf course look like a scene out of the Louisiana bayous.  MMM...toasty...

Air quality in the area today is listed as unhealthy, very unhealthy, or hazardous.  Aquatic centers are closed, and forestry is worried about the people who are obsessed enough to exercise in it.  Please stay inside, run on your treadmills, or take the day off.  Any short-term "need" to do a long run outside is outweighed by the long-term consequences.

I live in Lake View Terrace and I'll be lucky if I can get in a swim or a bike or a run before Malibu. Should make for an interesting race.

I'm taking it serious. I saw people playing soccer, and thought they were crazy. As discouraging as it is.. I'd rather take it easy for a couple of days, and not risk the consequences.

"Everyone should avoid any vigorous outdoor or indoor exertion; people with respiratory or heart disease, the elderly, and children should remain indoors. Keep windows and doors closed or seek alternate shelter. Run your air conditioner if you have one. Keep the fresh air intake closed and the filter clean to prevent bringing additional smoke inside."
