Just drove down Erie Blvd and there were signs saying "Run Race Sunday - Left Lane Closed"..... looks like we're running down the middle of the road.... cars on both sides... oh what fun.

Oh, that will be so cool! And, I try to run on the middle of the road anyway to avoid dealing with the pitch, so this is cool. Thirteen miles on the same side of the street is not good for the ITB, etc. Sweet !

I just realized while out on my ride today that I have no idea what to wear for the race.

I've been planning all summer on wearing my sleevless tri top, but I didn't realize how cold it was going to be race day. If it magicaly gets into the mid 70s I think I'll be fine but any colder and I'm lost.

What are you planning on wearing? (Its only while biking that I'm concerned

Tri shorts + sleeveless tri-top.  Planning on bringing along a pair of arm warmers as well and will make a judgement call that morning.

I'm going to still wear a sleeveless tri-top.  I will wear arm warmers initially on the bike.  By the time we're running it will be plenty warm enough.

Sleeveless tri suit with arm warmers here too. I am considering wearing socks as well -- I've never worn them on the bike in a tri. I always put them on for the run, though. The bummer is I don't want my running socks on during the bike, in case they get wet/muddy, etc., but I am not sure any of my cycling socks will allow my feet be comfortable for 13.1 miles, so I may do a sock change in T2. I'm not looking for a PR or anything, so I guess it's not a big deal.

That's a bummer, Bob.  I had to pull out of a race just last month as well.

I need to pick up some arm warmers.  Early on the bike is going to be a bit chilly.

Does anyone know what the water temp is going to be?  On the website it is very general (high 60’s/low 70’s); but that can be the difference between sleeveless and full sleeve wetsuit.  What's everyone's plans for wetsuit.  I have a sleeveless, but have access to a full sleeve suit.  Haven't decided yet.

I thought I read that the water temp was 70.  Sleeveless will be fine.

Oh bummer, I was looking forward to meeting you...after all these years on BT. Perhaps I will see you at packet pickup. I am usually in and out, though, as I don't like the nervous energy there .

I hope all is well with your family.

I was in the water this past Sunday and it was cool, but not chilly. Maybe upp 60s. It has been and will be cool at night and only 60s during the day the next few nights. I would think mid 60s for water temp at best. Possibly low 60s. Ouch. Wishing I had a full sleeve wetsuit to use.

The good news is with the cooler temps the weeds/seaweeds seem to be a little better. They were bad over the summer in the shallow sides. I don't believe they will be a problem this weekend. The swimm goes out more into the middle of the lake. And the beach access to the water is weed free.

I plan on wearing arm warmers as well. I know some people just go to the store and buy tube tops, cut the feet off them, and use them as arm warmers. This way, they don't feel guilty if they end up tossing them part way through the ride. I will likely just wear my regular arm warmers, though, and if I get too hot, just suck it up and buy a new pair later (I've had them for about 5 years, so it's not a HUGE loss).

I went out on my last pre-race home turf ride as sunrise this morning, temperatures were close to 50 degrees. Rode with arm warmers and sensed that this was right about at the temperature edge of do-I-or-don't-I for race day. As a late starter due to the wave assignments, might not need them, it will however depend on our dear Mother Nature for the final call.

Good luck folks, see you all soon.

Cheers!

i hope everyone's enjoying their taper week.  I've found that tapering is one of the strongest disciplines of my triathlon training!

How does one taper when one's longest ride was 55 miles over a month ago and...that's all the biking that has been done since then?! =

Just keep peddlin', just keep peddlin', just keep peddlin'...

Yea, I wouldn't recommend his training plan to anyone!
