Is it open to anyone?  I'm coming in Friday and will be solo, so if you don't mind a tag along, then I'll attend.

My longest training ride... 42 miles
My longest training run... 12 miles
My longest training swim... 1.1 mile
Innocent

That's from the (un)offical "back of the pack" HIM training plan...

Love it! It is not nearly as bad as rstocks training plans, though!!

BTW, we're up to at least THREE Athenas on this thread!!

What's the weight for Athena?

Gotcha. Some of the smaller, local races have it starting at 140...I thought it was different for IM. I don't qualify for 150.

Oh we are not the ones pending for church, I am not allowed within 150 feet of churches, schools or chuck E cheese. As for being a PITA I only learn from the best.  I say screw the whole racing thing and I will meet everybody at a bar downtown after the race.

I want to show up for dinner. Not sure if I'm going to be able to make it there though. Looks like I will most likely be getting into Syracuse later than I expected.

Woke up at 3am this morning and couldn't fall back to sleep... the pre-race jitters are officially here!

My back-of-the-pack race strategy:
#1 - Take it easy
#2 - Have fun
#3 - Yuck it up with racers, volunteers and spectators
#4 - Finish with a smile
#5 - Eat, drink and be merry!

That's sounds like one awesome gameplan Bob!

I would have liked to join the group for dinner as well, but my parents grew up in the Syracuse area so I will be having dinner with some relatives.

Best of luck and safe travels to everyone getting to the race!

That's my day too. It's going to be a long day out there for me, so I am hoping for a little comaraderie during the run.

#1 - Take it hard

#3 - Yuck it up with racers, volunteers and spectators and enjoy the "scenery"
#4 - Finish with the same weird look I always have on my face.

For what it's worth...

Spectators generally love athletes that ham it up during the race. It makes the experience more fun for all.

Okay, so now to plan my Spaghetti Warehouse ensemble... hmm... Do we get a Syr 70.3 t-shirt with our packet or would that be lame to wear it before the race? Where is swishyskirt to guide me???  We already had a mini-debate on whether Ironman gear is appropriate at a HIM. Innocent

It is unequivocally NOT cool to wear the race shirt before you complete the race. It's OK to wear last year's shirt for this year's race, to let folks know that this is old hat for you, and if you're doing the race a second time, it's only to beat the snot out of your previous PR on the course. But, of course that rule doesn't apply, as we are the inaugurals for Syracuse.

Darn. I'm not sure what's appropriate. Still deciding whether or not to bring my IMLP gear. I'm leaning towards not, since I don't want to be seen as one of "those" people.

Maybe y'all could walk around carrying the race goodie bag. That's within the realm of coolness and far enough away from d-bag status that you could get away with it.

Also, I suppose this entire post should be in sarc font. :-P

I might meet you guys out after for a drink, if you're still up and partying at the late hour of, oh, 8:30...

Speaking of wetsuits, wetsuitrental.com sent me another one. This one fits much better than the last one. It's still a large, which is weird to me, but whatever. I haven't tried it on in water yet. I don't want to do the pre-race swim on Saturday, because it kinda messes with my pre-race routine and the wetsuit will probably still be wet on Sunday morning; I guess maybe I should try it out in the pool before I leave tomorrow (the pool is 84F, so it won't be pleasant). I usually run to my parents' house around the corner to try them on, but they closed their pool the other day .

I still don't know why I freak out so much about every little detail...

At least if you wear the wetsuit, you won't stain your shirt with sauce stains.  I say everyone goes to Walmart and buys a shirt size smaller than normal with a superhero on it.  It will be easier to find the group that way.  I call Wonderdog..

Not to get ahead of ourselves, but has anyone heard anything about Syracuse hosting the 70.3 again next year? I recall Ironman announcing this years around sept 1st 2009. And they already have an October race announced in the Poconos next year. What do you think, will it be back? I sure hope so. Maybe they will announce it this weekend.
