Pre-race routine:

Up @ 5am. quick breakfast of coffee and a Clif bar. grabbed the gear and out the door
Event warmup:

Walked down to transition. set up and then milled around for a bit. Talked with Rottie and Two-Hearted. stretched out the legs a bit and then got in the water for a easy 300 WU.
Swim
  • 37m
  • 2400 meters
  • 01m 32s / 100 meters
Comments:

best swim by far this year. I think I finally have the hang of this OWS thing. started at the very back of the pack on purpose, then was able to weave my way up through the crowd without getting beaten to death.
What would you do differently?:

maybe go out a little harder
Transition 1
  • 03m 6s
Comments:

long run up from the beach. took my time to make sure I had everything I was going to need for the bike leg. Felt pretty good as I got onto the bike.
What would you do differently?:

grab a few ibuprofen before heading out on the bike course
Bike
  • 3h 06m
  • 56 miles
  • 18.06 mile/hr
Comments:

I was not prepared enough to "race" this distance. I really need to spend some serious time in the saddle before next year.
What would you do differently?:

Train more
Transition 2
  • 01m 19s
Comments:

So glad to get off the bike.
Run
  • 2h 24m
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

Run should have been much better, but I blew it on the bike. Got together with Mike and we paced each other and kept each other going through most of this. was a pretty course wish I could have enjoyed it more. Legs felt like they wanted to explode for the first two miles, then went numb below the knee.
What would you do differently?:

train harder on the bike
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed the kids and gathered up the gear. walked back to the house and got into a tub of cool water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

training time on the bike

Event comments:

Discovered that the run course was about 3/4 of a mile long. Didn't need that at the end of all this. Learned a lot about how to do this race for next year. Overall, I'm ok with the performance. things can only get better from here.

Great job this weekend!  I kinda had the same scenario as you...too hard on the bike and not enough left for the run...nice job pushing through.

You did it! Triathlete in adversity. And you signed up before you forgot how hard it was, that is a great sign for next year!
