Subject: Interbike

I have taken the plunge and have started the process of opening a multisports business. I will be attending Interbike in Las Vegas next week. As a first time Interbike attendee, are there any tips or things I need to know?

bring an extra suitcase to fly all your goodies home with you.

(i've not been, but my friend works for Team Estrogen and had literally a full suitcase of catalogs and samples)

I've been to interbike. It's a lot of fun.

Try to be around when the pros turn up and get something autographed. I have an Interbike jersey (from 2004 I think) autographed by George Hincapie and a poster from another year signed by Dave Zabriskie.

I'm not in the business, but I went with my LBS (that was sponsoring me at the time) and I was able to chat up some reps and get some free product, so be prepared to get samples. Not only did I get bike stuff, but I got some swimming stuff as well.

Take your camera.

Oh and it's Vegas, be prepared to drink alot.

thats pretty awesome.  Interbike I hear is a pretty cool event.  I'm sure you will enjoy yourself.  Whats the name of your company?  Any website yet?

Thank you for asking. It is a bit early to release any details. However, I will be looking at BT as one of the sites to do some advertising and possibly offering a discount for BT members.

Congrats and good luck on the startup.  I'll keep my eye out for info on the opening, as there's always something I don't really need but buy anyway.

Most of the business will be e-commerce. However, we will have a brick and mortar store as well. Currently, we are fully staffed but you can send me your resume if you would like.

Thanks but it is probably wishful thinking. I am a Registered Nurse with absolutely zero retail experience

An RN with no retail experience?

Ever tried to "sell" a family on a NGT. Or maybe get them to "buy" a dis-impaction from you.

Yep... you've made some tough sells in your lifetime. Don't forget that at your next interview. =)

Those are easy sells.  You just say "If you don't do this, I'll bring your Against Medical Advice (AMA) discharge stuff, and you can get out.  OR your other option is to die."

Works like a charm.

Hmmm I have tooo much retail and retail mgt experience and I am going back to school to become a RN.
My take is that there is tons of customer service involved in being a RN.

Back in my day there were 2 Interbike events.  One west coast and one always in Philly.  I always got to only go to the Philly one.

After the first few years where it is just mind-blowingly overwhelming seeing all the bling it turned into go, talk to my reps and work out orders for the season, check out a few things and go home.  Still cool, but some of the luster was lost.

I'd still love to go though, it has been over 10 years since I've had a chance!
