Total Time = 1h 50m 40s
Overall Rank = 568/759
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 31/37
Pre-race routine:

woke up at 430am and felt like my boobs gained 10 pounds each. PMS is fun. Threw tampons in bag just in case. :) Bagel at bagel shop, was right outta the oven, soo good.
Event warmup:

set up stuff, walk on beach, stretch, get in the water. The water is so warm and feels great!
Swim
  • 18m 43s
  • 825 yards
  • 02m 16s / 100 yards
Comments:

Lets see, let's start on the far end and get away from everyone. Ddint' work, got boxed in and couldn't get around/over anyone. ugh. Start in front, get run over. Start in back, get boxed in. What's a girl to do? Matt says to be more aggressive. I'm not an aggressive person by nature, I need a couple beers. :) I finally got out alone and was okay for a while till I caught someone from the previous wave. I need to learn to swim faster so I can start in front and get out into my own rhythm. Open water swimming will be my downfall one of these days.
What would you do differently?:

BE MORE AGGRESSIVE. I'm getting used to the crowding, but.... I'm comfortable in OW by myself, but with 100 of my closest friends literally ribbing me is another story.
Transition 1
  • 02m 24s
Comments:

for once the other bikes were back and nice enough not to take my space.
What would you do differently?:

Run
Bike
  • 50m 3s
  • 15 miles
  • 17.98 mile/hr
Comments:

need more hydration on the bike, didn't take gel in like planned. I had fun on this bike, I even let out a whoop going down the other end of the overpass at 24mph. I'm like a little kid. Passed lots of folks and got passed by a few. Gee, these folks are fast, I"m going 18 and they pass me like I'm standing still and their feet arent even spinning round that quickly. Few headwinds, hills weren't so bad.
What would you do differently?:

learn to go faster. I'm getting the "new bike" itch.
Transition 2
  • 01m 55s
Comments:

I just blew out of there!! I was like a maniac coming out. Unfortunately, this didn't last very long.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster (duh).
Run
  • 37m 36s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 12m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

I couldn't catch my breath for a while. My legs were good. I think I run leg-heavy. I need to do somethign about my running form. Is there a way to make it lighter? Fly? Wingtips? The last half of the run was on the beach! Man! Some of it was packed sand, but areas were wet and soft. I tried to avoid wet shoes but didn't right at the end. The sprint to the finish was all SOFT sand and it was impossible to sprint, I gave it all I thought I had in me. It was HOT!!
What would you do differently?:

Be more prepared for beach running. Dig deep and get that power going. Get over fear of going fast.
Post race
Warm down:

walking on beach, swimming in water with Dylan, waiting for friend to finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Fear. Kinda hard to explain, I don't understand it myself really. Something like "if I go faster, I'll get a cramp or lose my breath or fall or hurt my knee again or whatever".

Event comments:

Started 10 minutes late, buoys were not up yet. No Anthem played, I was surprised when the first wave took off.

If you're reading this and the times aren't up, its cause they arent up yet by the timer folks.  They will come.

It was great to meet you this morning! Great job today. That sand at the end was awful. I agree that hill was fun - I got over 28mph on that!! And that swim was CRAZY! The wave was too big.

My respect factor for you was just raised up a notch.   Good race.  My vote is for start up front in the swim.  You've got the skills!!!

Congrats on a fine race Christine.

updated for times. I suck! My running hasn't improved at all in the past year I've done triathlon.  It's actually worse.  A 37 5K?  Man.  At least it's not my worst time to date.  Second worst actually.

The times aren't on the race's website but on AltaVistasports.com

This is so depressing!  I KNOW I  can do better!  This just flat out is horrible!

Your run times were fine. Really. Please don't discount how hard it is to run on sand/uneven surfaces, etc. I say good for you for not getting injured! From where I sit, looks like you had a great race. Well done.

P.S. I'd sell my daughter for your bike time.
