I need to find it but I had read that in the first 8 months of his presidency he had given 4x as many speeches then Clinton and Bush.

I need to find it but I read that in the first 8 months of his presidency, the country was 4x more effed up than when Clinton or Bush started their presidencies.

I guess you forgot that Bush inherited a recession from Clinton - and FIXED the issue without a bloated spending bill that still doesn't have the money being spent and into the economy.

Oops, wrong thread, I thought that I was going to be reading about the 2016 Olympic selection, my bad.

My point is that when Obama took office he had a whole heck of a lot more to talk about than when Clinton or Bush took office.

People always bash Obama for always being in front of a camera without discussing whether or not his speeches are purposeful.

Am I in the right thread.  How does this relate to the Chicago 2016 Olympics?

There are no Chicago 2015 Olympics they are in the thong bikini capitol of the world.

For what it's worth, I'm in favor of adding the bikini speed waxing event.

I think anti Bush and Anti Obama folks make a big mistake by focusing on little things like this. It's too bad for our nation on one hand we didn't get the bid, on the other hand I'd be very very concerned about the amount of corruption and under handed dealing that would go on because of it.

PennState - 2009-10-02 1:53 PM It is inevitable that some reference to the president would occur. If it were Bush, people would have commented as well. It's life, accept it... I am actually curious why we were the 1st ones out? Anyone have any really good idea why? (Aside from the JC theory )

This might be a reason

Link

However,  the triumphant Chicago presentation--the culmination of a $48 million package--had cold water thrown onto it when Pakistani IOC member Syed Shahid Ali correctly noted the significant difficulties facing foreigners seeking entry into the United States. Obama failed to address Ali's concerns, saying only that hosting the Games in Chicago would be "a reminder that America at its best is open to the world."

America's visa processing issues have been well-publicized throughout much of the world, with some tourists waiting six months or more to have a 10 minute appointment with a visa examiner in an embassy or consulate to visit America on a vacation. Business visas or those for cultural ambassadors, like artists and athletes, are similarly problematic. Many applicants complain that the system is opaque at best and a crap shoot at worst, with few guidelines provided for applicants and rejections issued pro forma.

I'm thinking this would be a huge reason...

You think they have been?  His speeches have not been purposeful at all.  He knows how to campaign and he is horrible outside of that realm.  The guy is truly the epitome of a "post turtle."  Does that mean I am defending Bush.. Heck no!  Do I think McCain would be doing a better job?  HA!  I think he would be doing a different job but not necessarily better.  I think Obama could have been a good president if there were a Libertarian / truly fiscal conservative congress that could have kept him in check.

As it stands he is a salesman but he only knows how to sell his own ideas.  Unfortunately, when the product is garbage, it's only a matter of time before people quit buying it.

I really thought this was Tijuana's year, man. It was neck and neck with Rio in terms of tin shack shantytowns, drug lords, corrupt police, international kidnappings (and killings), and fanatical soccer fans. Ah well, there's always 2020.

Two things,

1. Here is a link, the info I am skeptical of and was wondering if anyone can confirm or show it to be false, which is the direction I'm leaning.

2. NRG42 and Pector55 here is the ultimate for the professional speed waxer,,,, wax on rip off.

jimbo -  i've never seen so many prominent conservatives so excited to root against their own country and so giddy to see america lose.

that's really, really funny. Did you know that's how conservatives perceived the left when Bush was our president?

there, is that better?

perception? how about factually accurate?

"Cheers erupt at Weekly Standard world headquarters." John McCormack, editor, in a post titled "Chicago Loses! Chicago Loses!"

"Please, please let me break this news to you. It's so sweet." Glenn Beck.

"WORLD REJECTS OBAMA: CHICAGO OUT IN FIRST ROUND. THE EGO HAS LANDED." Drudge.

"For those of you ... who are upset that I sound gleeful, I am. I don't deny it. I'm happy." Rush Limbaugh.

"Hahahahaha." Erik Erickson, founder of RedState, republican blog/discussion board.

"Game over on Obamalympics. Next up, Obamacare." Michelle Malkin, defender of internment.

see also the Rich Lowery top 10 in this thread.

and there's no denying that some of the other posts in this thread are celebrating the fact that chicago was passed over.

i'm well aware of rightwing criticism of liberals as rooting against the US. show me the equivalent celebration by prominent liberals celebrating NY being passed over in 2005.

^^^ You will likely never accept the point I was making... like 2 trains passing in the night.

When emotionally attached to a side or issue, *my* opinion is that people (in general) tend to see things in a less objective way. They see their guy being attacked more than the other side's guy. I'm truly not happy to just single you out as there have been other threads here on the topic of the opposition to Obama being much worse and more vitriolic than the opposition to Bush. As someone who voted for both individuals, I see things quite differently.

If you don't accept that *many* of the leaders on the left were hoping *America would fail* under the last president, well then let's just say enjoy the train ride, as there is little else to say.

i do get what you're saying about perceptions even if i disagree with the particulars. and i don't feel like you're singling me out. when my cat's bored, he splashes water out of his water fountain. when i'm bored, i engage in debates that go nowhere and kill threads. splashing water seems the better option at this point.

and having held season tickets for PSU football, that was clearly a completion.
