I'm in...it'll be my 3rd Full in Houston. Did the Koala 1/2 last weekend and it felt pretty good, so I think I'm right on schedule. I'm doing Austin Full in Feb, any advice on recovery between Houston in Jan and Austin in Feb?  ~ 4weeks

Hal Higdon has some plans for multiple marathons and he tells you what to do between them depending on the time between races. I was going to use his, but I only like to run 4 days per week, so this was high in volume for me. I wound up using the runner's world thing instead.

Just wrapped up my final run for my first week of marathon-focused training.  42.5 miles this week...whew!  Looking forward to a rest day tomorrow.  How is everyone else doing?

I'm using this plan (started on week 2) with some slight modifications: http://runningtimes.com/Article.aspx?ArticleID=5997/>

Injured myself by increasing volume too fast and now, after taking 2 weeks completely off, I can't run 2 miles without pain in my left knee.  New shoes and everything.  Guess I'll have to bow out on this one, forfeit my reg. fee, and focus on the bike.  Bummer.

I'm sorry to hear this.  Getting hurt is always difficult.  Have you been swimming?  That might help with your knee, worth a try.
I was also thinking you might be able to get someone to buy your spot if you don't mind them running under your name, a lot of people got shut out this year that would like to run.

Good luck!

No way.  I'm signed up for the full but will probably make the turn with the half folks unless I'm really feeling my oats.  The point of no return is just before 9 miles.  Sporadic training due to an injury is messing up my hopes for completing my first full mary.  Planning on the run 9 min, walk 1 min strategy.  Goal is to finish.

Anyone ready to start worrying about the weather? The 15 day forecast I saw looked perfect 45 degrees and sunny for the start.

This will be my first so I do not know what to expect.  I have done 1 run at 20 and 2 over 20 during the end of my training.  A few runs ago my legs started to feel heavy, but no pain so I think I will be fine.  Just looking forward to running on flat lands, with lots of people around.

I can deal with 45 and sunny

ETA: I just looked and I am bib #2958.  Please kick me if you see me down.  That just may be the last motivation I need in order to finish

FYI-You can go to the website and start adding people to the text/email alerts for your bib number.

Tell your friends and family this might not be the best way to find you on the course. Last year I was done and hanging out with my dad at the post-race area when he got the text - I had just crossed at mile 18! The system got super bogged down and was several hours off.

As for being ready, I certainly hope I am at this point, cuz it's too late to do anything else about it now

Cool, I'm glad that brought that back. Really helps my cheering squad to follow me around town.

Good point Erin, I remember in 2008 the whole thing crashed and no alerts went out. Left my wife thinking I collapsed or something before ever reaching the 10K mat.

I start at 7.10am with the blue wave but was hoping to run with the 3:50 pace group. Does anyone know which wave the pacers run in?

Red wave for the full, bib #1705. I'm putting in the miles and I'll be ready, but my goals are a bit different for this race. I'm already set for Boston, so I can afford to "play around".

Houston is really just a training run for a bigger race in Feb. But having said that, I'm going to push the pace for the first half and go for a 1:35. Then I'll let up for recovery and training, and finish the second half in around 2:00-2:05.

That's the plan anyway; we'll see what race day brings.

I assumed, since there were two pace leaders for most times, that there would be pace groups in each wave. Don't know for sure, just what I figured....

I'm in the red wave also. #2743.

I have not had the best training for a marathon.  I did not start in earnest until right after Thanksgiving.  Suffered from late season burnout.

So I am suffering from the "who gives a crap's" because I am working 2 jobs and it is cold.  I have missed a 4 mile run and a 3 mile run.  Aside from just keeping lose, how important are the rest of the runs?  I think I can do a 3:45 without killing myself so I just need to hear how important the last week is.  I am ready for a couple of weeks off (maybe some swimming), before I kick my cycling into gear.

You'll be fine, especially with the reasonable goal you've set. Missing a few miles here & there won't make a difference at this point . The main thing is staying injury-free and being rested on Sunday.
