![]() Does anyone here work, or is everyone retired???? I think these BT challenges are great but... how do you possibly have enough time to spend every day, all day on here and get any work done? Also, I read an interesting article this weekend that said trends show that people are replacing a normal social life with 'on line' communities... Membership and attendance for civic organizations, clubs and community functions is declining rapidly. Does anyone find it interesting that so many invest so much of themselves and their time to a community where most don't even know each other's real names? Why is it that some are so drawn to this social format? I guess everyone likes something different. BTW- I'm on my lunch break. ![]() |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Nope...not addicted....not at all. I'm not sure why this format clicks for me but it does. I've been very lucky and gotten to meet a lot of my BT friends in real life, even though I don't live particularly close to anyone. This place has been a lifeline for me as I've gone through a lot of very challenging issues. In fact through my hardest times it was my bt friends I turned to instead of real life friends. I guess I needed the barrier of the phone or the screen. I have never come across a more supportive, helpful, encouraging and caring group of people. Perhaps like-minded people are drawn to the same site? |

![]() | ![]() I work in front of a computer all day. This site is usually one of a dozen or more applications running at any one time so, while I'm logged in for a lot of hours, I'm not really here as much as it looks like. That's the story I'm sticking with too! ![]() |

Elite Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I love going on this website and talking with people who have something in common with me. Also, I learn from reading other people's posts and since I'm a stay at home mom I really have no contact with humans over the age of 10 months. :-)Honestly, I do get out every day with my little one, but I seem to spend any free time (which isn't much) on this website. It's better than watching stupid reality TV or something. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm a stay at home Dad. I get on this couple times a day. It is much better than TV especially since I don't have cable. Running, Biking and Swimming are my hobbies and this helps keep me motivated at times. I love the training log on this site. Yes, I'm a little addicted to this site. It could be worse. ![]() Randy |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I am so addicted to BT! It's like I found something I had been missing - I love the training logs, the attitude of people here, the encouragement, the Race Reports, the amazing inspiring stories that everyone shares. It is so much more than a triathlon website! I achieved things I never thought I would ever do and it is because of this site and the people here. I am proud to be addicted. I work part time, have a 2.5yr old son and train up to 6 days per week, I hardly watch TV and would much rather spend what little free time I have here. There is always time for the things you think are important. You Just Make time. My job involves dealing with people face to face all day and so this is quite relaxing knowing you don't have to actually talk in person! I love it! Can you tell?? ![]() |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() That's how i missed the swimming challenge: my addiction went so bad i was forced to abstinate 2 weeks... and i missed anouncement for the challenge...and now i reap the rewards for free... i mean, WOW boys look GOOD, arent they? oups, i went off-topic. Yes, "problem" with this comunnity is that it is so good that it is addictive. Only a force strong this much could lift me from couch, i am so grateful that my life is taking this turn for a good. BTW i found on Galloway's site that it is not unusual to have 10-12 false startes until someone manage to adopt a new habit. I think this site helps a great deal to reduce this no of false start. And this is solitude sport, 99% of training is done alone, so i have an extra excuse to come here. Maybe next year when i will be in better form i wil hang with 3athletes in flesh, for now i am to intimidated. For them i am potato and that's true, and for my sedentary friends i am a freak, but they are too polite to tell that. Here is an insert from recent conversation with my best friend: What? why are you writing down a weekly plan? why don't you do what you feel that moment? ... Rest days, fine, mee to, if I go for a walk one day, I can't go for a walk the next day, i'm too tired .....What, 8.... 8 sessions/week? well, uhhmm, wait - but how do you do it, there is only 7 days in a week?.... wow you do MORE THEN ONE thing in a SINGLE day? |

Elite Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Probably, but what does it hurt? I do have a job, but I'm very good at it and have time to hang here at the same time because of my superior time management skills Originally I stumbled upon this site because I was looking for a resource for information when I wanted to do my first tri. I ended up lurking on the forum for a while because this kind of environment was totally foreign to me and I wanted to see what was going on. I thought people who talked to each other on the Internet were whack jobs looking to score with someone elses husband / wife or share their opinions about exactly what everyone else in the world should be doing or thinking. But lo and behold, I found people JUST LIKE ME! They want to do what I want to do, they like what I like, they think running and biking and swimming are fun, even if they aren't very good at it (like me). They have a vast amount of knowledge that I can access instantly just by asking a question, instead of spending massive amounts of time trying to find out on my own. I can avoid a lot of trial and error that will cost me money that I don't want to spend and time that I don't want to waste. Plus sometimes they totally crack me up (anyone want to resurrect the exploding gel packet thread?). I live in a small town in Iowa, and the resources here are minimal (tri store - huh? tri club - wha?) but through this site I have found people in my area that I would have never found otherwise. So yes, my name is Tania and I'm a BT addict..... |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My wife makes fun of me all the time because I have been spending so much time on this site. I signed up months and months ago, but didn't really start using it until late last month. Not sure why, just didn't. Now I seem to want to get on here everyday, see what's going on, etc. It's also great because I was tracking my training with a spreadsheet ie boring! The logs and info on here are irreplaceable. So far so good! I'm starting to meet alot more BTer's and other triathletes and training with them. It makes the whole sport that much more fun! |
