Variety does it for me as well.  In my case instead of having to think things up myself I ended purchasing a plan that fit me (comfort and budget).  There is never a dull moment with the plan - I'm constantly doing different things in every discipline.  Always testing my fitness (that doesn't mean hammering it everytime out - in fact I very rarely do that).  This probably doesn't help you much but if you look around there are lots of great stuff out there.  I ended up selecting Gordo Byrn's plans - they fit me.

What's everyones goals for March? Mines to just get it over with and make it to April.

I think I got whatever Brit had last week. Felt like crud yesterday and today, though I think it's already on it's way out. Going to get a couple workouts in tomorrow morning and then start making my way to Colorado. Will have a few days for fun before my surgery I was supposed to have back in February. Once I get back from that the 2010 season really starts and hopefully I can start training at 100%. Though it's not looking too good for my races in April, I'll do em it just won't be as good as I had wanted.

My main goal is to get out on my bike!!!  Maintain the swim, hopefully keep the same MPW for the run and keep the pace coming down.  It's looking like my first tri will be June 6th, the Danskin sprint in Austin.  I'm looking at my A race to be the TriWaco OLY.

This is a good thread for me right now.  After 2 very motivated months I feel like the bottom just fell out.   Don't think I'm sick, just feel out of it, lazy and tired.  Haven't done anything for 2 days.  Guess I need something to shake me up as well.  Maybe I'll look into a new training program. The plan today is to hit the streets after work and run 5 miles.    On the good side, I have my first indoor tri this Saturday and I convinced my sisters to form a relay tri team for one of the Danskin triathlons in August.

Janet... I think we all go through those motivational lows for a little bit... then all of a sudden it will come back and you will be right back at it.  Maybe it's our bodies telling us to take a rest?  Make this an easy week, enjoy your race and maybe that will be the spark to put you back to work next week!

Hey team,

I am coming up to my first race of the year - 30k run - hoping to PB.  I've done this race twice before.  I was super happy with my result last year but I think my training and fitness are even better this year. Plus, we've had glorious conditions for running.  :D woo hoo.

Hiya all - long time no post.     It's good to see everyone doing so well though!

I think i'm finally through the winter doldrums, colds and leg issues that seem to have plagued me for the last month.  My first race is in two months so I really need to get moving if I am going to survive it at this point.  My goal for the month is to just be consistent with my workouts.  Though my legs aren't cooperating, I am in a much better place physically than last year so now it's just applying myself and being consistent in order to achieve my goals.

Continue executing the plan I'm on and having fun!!  I am doing a "virtual" 10K with my oldest son and his soon to be bride at the end of the month.  They are doing a 10K race in Richmond, Va and I said what the heck..... I'll make a 10K course here in Florida on the same date and time and race it!!!!!

I'm in a bit of a funk, so I've decided to use this week to do a bump-up in my running mileage.  (Not that you could tell from my log- but I have big weekend plans!).  I have my first quasi-tri on Saturday.  Indoors, 15 minutes each in the pool, on the spin bike and then on the treadmill.  I'm not sure about how it will work but I plan on arriving to watch the early waves.  Afterwards I hope to run 5 miles outdoors and then go for 10-16 miles on Sunday.  How about everyone else??

6 mile run this morning, bike this afternoon, hope to do an a.m. swim tomorrow and a longer bike, long run on Sunday.  We have finally gotten some warmer weather here in Texas, so I am trying to make up for my lack of biking!

Looks like a big Sunday for you.  Enjoy your "quasi-tri" on Saturday.

For me, bike (benchmark various HR's) followed up by a short transition run on Saturday.  Sundays are always an open easy day on the plan - I'll figure something out by then (perhaps I'll practice those flip turns I've been watching on video)?

I think this is an aerobic fatigue versus muscular fatigue question (don't know for sure).  I have found in some of my faster run workouts thus far I crack more because of aerobic fatigue (i.e... maxed out at a HR of 160 versus burning in the legs).  On the bike it's a bit different.  I experience burning in the legs (which I guess is lactate build up) before I max out my HR.  Of course I'm not going super long distances yet in my training but I was wondering if this is normal?

Yo Gang!  I thought I'd post a quickie report here, because afterall, it was a pretty quick event!  My first effort at at triathlon (I know it really doesn't qualify as a triathlon, but humor me).  I was in the first wave:  15 minutes swim.  I think I swam about 650 yards.  10 minute transition, then onto the spin bikes.  The tension was pre set.  I think it was about right for me.  I really didn't look at my mileage in the 15 minutes, which is pretty lame, I know.   5 minutes to get to the treadmill.  15 minutes on the treadmill I think I went about 1.65 miles.  Overall it was pretty fun.  I didn't stay around for results since I'm pretty sure it was going to be going for several hours.  Hopefully the results will be posted so I can have a better idea of my performance.  After the "event" I ran outside so I can keep to my mileage plan for the week.

Janet!!  I didn't know that was your first??!  That's a weird one, with just 15 minutes and not even on your own bike.... I think you'll like an outdoor, traditional tri a LOT more!!  Still, girl, YOU are a TRIATHLETE!!

So this is pretty funny.  I went to the YMCA this AM to swim some laps and I see a poster with the results from Saturday's event.  I go to the 50-55 female rankings and see that I finished first in the group.  OK, I think, pretty neat.  I then go to the overall results and don't see my name.  Oh well, I think they probably just posted the top 10.  I then look again and notice that my name is at the top of the list.  I Won it!  The prize is a pair of running shoes, so I'm pretty geeked.  I'll take everything I can get but you guys all know that this indicates there was no real competition there.  This has gone a long way to get me out of my slump!

Stats:

6.19 miles bike / 15 minutes

HOLY CRAP, JANET!!!!!!!!!  That is just fabuloso!!  Way to go, not only winning your AG but the whole thing??!!  Totally awesome girl, so proud of you!!

I put your results into the tri converter.... bike speed was 24.76 mph (on a stationary bike no less!)  Run speed, 9:05 mile pace!!  That is just HOT!

Oh good... Fresh postings to read!

Its false spring in Michigan.  Temps have been in the 60's all week and we've seen the sun!  Just what us northerners needed.  But watch out, snow coming on Sunday.  I'm ramping up my running mileage and spending more time in the pool to balance things out. 

Here is a question, does spinning trash everyone's legs?  I've been working through the workouts in a binder on my bike trainer and I find that it has helped my running by increasing my leg turnover, but my legs feel really heavy.  My mile splits have improved but I feel like my legs are cement!  Any hope this will go away with time?

After today I think I'm good to start really running some solid workouts again. Paced a friend at a local Half here on the trails I run at least twice a week. Although it probably wasn't the best idea ever considering my last month or two of running... However I said I would pace a friend at Houston Half and I busted my foot the week before that and this was the make up for that. She ended up winning OA female, though several minutes off her Houston time, but that's not comparable to this race due to it being on trail. I'd be lying if I said it didn't wear me out despite the pace not being anything to write home about for me. Just out of shape. It did however really make me want to get back to racing, it's been too long since I've raced with any sort of goal or anywhere near 100%.


Finally, starting to look forward to the season. Hopefully it's good! Hope everyone is doing good and the taste of good weather on the way is getting y'all pumped up. We've got another storm rolling through, but that's all good. Weather does what it does, and I'll do what I do.

I did my first half mary today in 2:16:21! Did pretty good considering that I was out sick last week.
