Oh good... Fresh postings to read!

Its false spring in Michigan.  Temps have been in the 60's all week and we've seen the sun!  Just what us northerners needed.  But watch out, snow coming on Sunday.  I'm ramping up my running mileage and spending more time in the pool to balance things out.

Here is a question, does spinning trash everyone's legs?  I've been working through the workouts in a binder on my bike trainer and I find that it has helped my running by increasing my leg turnover, but my legs feel really heavy.  My mile splits have improved but I feel like my legs are cement!  Any hope this will go away with time?

I'll let the guys/gals that have much more experience than me tackle this one.  I don't do a lot of training on a spinner (Florida does have some perks!!).  Could your legs be a bit fatigued?

Junthank, you're probably right. I've decided to take a bit of a recovery week this week and see if I can get some more zip in my step.  I can't back too much off my running with some big events coming up,but I can back off on spinning.  I think I will still go to the pool since it isn't too taxing on my legs.  My marathon is 8 weeks away and last night the nightmares began.  I slept-in and missed the start in one, and in another I forgot to find out where the start was!  Isn't it funny how your mind works?!?

JC

How goes it for everyone else?  Any events on the horizon?  How is the training coming?

Ahh... the mind...  Hey, your putting in the effort in your training so I'm certain you will nail the marathon!!!

For me training in going great.  Next race mid-May, Olympic distance.  Looking forward to it.

How do you get back into swimming after being out of it for 5 weeks? Hopefully, my eye doc clears me tomorrow so I can resume swimming. Do I start with easy swims or light distance from where I left off?

Monica,  I would just go with where you left off.  Take a planned workout, know that you will probably be slower and have less endurance and don't feel bad if you cut it short.  By your 3rd swim or so, you should be feeling back in the groove!

Does spinning trash the legs! A hard workout does, and that's a good thing! Running fast off the bike is due to a high cadence on the bike and your body wanting to replicate that. Unfortunately that's hard to do and you have to make note to keep your pace in check coming off the bike. This is where bricks come in handy.

I'll take the avg distance I had been swimming and use a workout along those lines. I'd add 5-10s rest per interval though, as you're going to be slower. However I've never had too much of a problem coming back and doing the distance. Just slow!

Two weeks out of my first race of the year, which I'll certainly be well off the mark, but it will be a lot of fun. Hoping to crush the swim, be slightly out of the game on the bike and then go backwards on the run. I'm just really looking forward to starting the season. I normally start racing in February!

My first race is a supersprint in a little over four weeks.  I'll survive it and use it as a building block for the rest of the season, not to mention a learning experience on how to transition with a bike that has clipless pedals.

Everything is finally coming along - slowly for sure - but at least I am out moving around.  Being able to get outside has really helped my outlook and training.  Let's hope the snow stays away for the rest of the year.

I have my first race of the season this weekend. It's a race i've done twice before - 30k run.  (Anyone ever watch Saint Ralph? He runs the race I am doing in that movie. There are a lot more people in it now)  Anyway, I've been eyeing the forecast and it's been changing but now we're back to rain and moderate winds

I feel fit and that i can at least do what I did last year ... I am hoping for a couple of minutes better!

It feels great to finish a half mary! I really felt EVERY 13.1 miles of it on the following Monday and Tuesday. I have been wearing my finishers medal this week and lots of people wanted to talk more about it at work.

Team, I am SO sorry for my inexcusable absence over the past several weeks.  This year has attacked with a vengence more so than I could've ever imagined.  The initial milestone gate is just two weeks from tomorrow--I change command. When that happens, I suddenly become only responsible for me and my dogs--which in itself will be a massive change.  While I've been training, even the focus of that had to shift as I simply haven't had the ability to focus on it like I would like do to other priorities. Ah, the challenges of the Age Group athlete...life and training.  That, and the work filters won't let me onto BT, and I used to be able to use lunch to catch up.

That being said, lots of you are doing AWESOME things! Monica-SWEET job on the half-mary!! Jen, how did the 30k go?
I WILL be in here much more. I can't promise a bunch of inspires yet, but I'll looking in here and checking your logs.

I hope spring is breaking for many of y'all.  The temps here seem to be stabilizing into spring, but the winds are something out of the Wizard of Oz.

Oh, shots, no good--sounds painful!
I hope everyone is having a good week. Mine was going well, had some bumps today cause of work, but still felt good in the pool and that hasn't happened too often this year.  I have a half-iron this month...should be interesting!!

The shot went fine yesterday. Most of the pain went away. Need to take it easy this weekend. No running yet.

I hope everyone had a great Easter weekend!  Who is up next in the race chute? I know Stephen has a race this next weekend.  Anyone else? I finally had a solid weekend of training.  I have a four day, so today is off, and needed. Was up all night with phone calls with work and deploying out two more of my Soldiers.  One more week and the crazy work phone is GONE!
