Saw a great movie - "Defiance" (Daniel Craig, Liev Schreiber)

I have not yet seen it (on my list of a dozen or so movies to rent over the week I'm not working at Christmas) .... but have heard remarkably positive things about it.
Highly recommended from trusted sources.

   I heard Craig was supposed to be great in it. Thanks for the reminder to pick it up. 

It was in Poland? I must have been confused with all the mention of Russia stuff regarding the brigade and bombing the trains.

I think this was the first movie I've seen him. He is pretty good and surprised me. I think the only other movie I can remember with him in it, was james bond, but I didn't see it.

I rented the dvd some time ago. It's really good.

auto208562 - 2009-12-18 9:30 PM It's sort of an unknown (at least to me) true story of these jewish brothers, sort of like resistance fighters in the forests of Russia Poland, trying to protect other jewish refugees/escapees during WWII. Similar to Schindler's List but very different also. Anyways, I highly recommend it.

The forests of Belorussia (now Belarus) between Poland and Russia.  And yes, it's a good movie.  Surviving the winter, the group dynamics, all of it.

I've been to Belarus twie (we have a relationship with an orphanage there) so I have an affinity for the people of that country. Tough, resilient and fiercely proud, this movie is an incredible snapshot into the resistance that country put up against the Nazis. Sadly, after the war, the oppression continued under the Soviets and continues to this day under President Lukashenko...

I really liked this movie as well.

I have to add that this movie led to getting a new TV. I had to get up and read the captions at the end to my wife. We couldn't see them from the couch on our old 25 inch TV. She, being the finance minister, decided it was time for a bigger TV.

Good movie, but the ending was kind of contrived.  But that's Hollywood.
