I live in the frozen tundra in Canada and have to wear a balaclava to avoid losing my nose and other precious facial features to frostbite. I am also half blind if I do not wear my glasses so, after running for about 30 seconds, my hot breath starts fogging up my glasses. Now, combined with the darkness, I can't see anything more than 6 inches in front of me. Given that I am six feet tall, I am now totally blind to the ice patches on which I end up stepping on and then unintentionally introducing to my butt, hip, elbow or shoulder. I know I am not the nicest person in the world but, really, must I suffer so?
I am sure that some of you experience(d) the same problems and can pass on your pearls of wisdom on what would be a good anti-fogger I can use on my glasses. Any ideas? And please do not suggest I wear contact. I can't. I also can't afford to move to Tahiti!

Dear Blind Canadian,

Lasic surgery.

Or wait it out.  With global warming Manitoba will be the next Arizona in a few years.

I'm not too sure if you have a local dive shop, but if you do you can pick up an anti fog gel for about $5.

Very similar situation as you, and I'm 6' 2-1/2".  I fanagle the best I can with trying to breathe more downwards to avoid my breathe rising and fogging up my glasses.  It takes some getting used to.

This might seem odd, but I had a similar problem with my Oakley running glasses.  I found that if I kept my eyebrows trimmed very short, and I wore them an inch or so extended from my face, my glasses didn't fog up.

Turns out, when I wasn't trapping the hot air between my glasses and my eye sockets, they didn't fog up.

Not sure if this will work for you - but something to consider b/c they are fogging up b/c you are trapping heat inside the lenses.

In addition to the suggestions of trying to keep the breath out of the glasses or give them more ventilation (wearing further from the face) there is a product called Cat Crap that can help.  Look in ski shops if you have any locally.

Why not just use that TYR antifog we all have in our tri gear for our goggles already?

I use Zooke on my glasses and swim goggles. Bought it at the motorcycle show but you can get it online. The spray works great. http://www.zooke.com/>
I also used to use Cat Crap on my ski goggles -- also good.

I had the exact same problem Skiing this Christmas.  When I wore the facemask, my glasses fogged up and I had to wear Goggles (and be sight impaired).

I was able to wear a headband over my chin and the fogging wasn't too bad, but that might not cut it for you and your nose.

Going forward, I am either going to get a pair of prescription goggles that I can wear for skiing or paintball/airsoft... or get goggles that are designed to have glasses under them.

My glasses fog up when I have my mouth & nose covered.  The neck-gaiter I wear funnels the warm air up and it gets into my glasses.  I haven’t really found a way to prevent it other than pulling the gaiter down periodically to let the glasses clear or just trying to go without it for as long as I can.

I’ve seen those neoprene that some skiers/snowboarders wear over their nose/mouth that have the little vent-holes over the mouth. Maybe they would work?

There are more sophisticated face masks, like mentioned above.

I have also had success with the eyebrow/leaving space trick.  If you leave a little bit of room, you should be good.  Close enough that the glasses stay warm, but far enough for good airflow.  Resist the urge to push them up your nose. I wear glasses and I know it's hard not to do that.

I ran at 4F last week and didn't need to keep my nose covered after a quick warmup, but the breath deflecting from my balaclava was sending up moisture.  I made the mistake of taking my (sun)glasses off and then they promptly froze.  Oops!  After a quick wipe and repositioning it was fine the rest of the run.

That is what I used skiing and they fogged up glasses quite well.  The one I had was not tight enough around the nose to keep the air I exhaled from going up into the glasses.  I doubt there is one that would be tight enough unless it was extremely snug on the face.
