Extreme Veteran 1942 In front of computer when typing this. | Subject: RE: Your Tentative Race Schedule for 2010 My schedule. Will tweak from this list. Bold is definite. - Tobacco Road half marathon (March) - White Lake Half Ironman (May) - Gary Kirby (June; pool swim though so probably not) - Triangle sprint (July- back from Vancouver the previous week so not sure this will work) - Buckner Mission Man (7/24) or Swim for Smiles (7/25), if I don't do Triangle - Mayo Lake (8/14) - Jordan Lake Sprint (Oct) And maybe, just maybe, depending on about 4000 other things, B2B ironman. Gotta find a way out of those loooong 5/6 hr rides! So hard to do that with little kids who I would rather hang out with. 3hrs is OK- can get up early and be back home before too much of the day is gone, but 5/6 hrs? I don't play golf for a reason... |

That's why I'm waiting to consider an IM. Well, besides it being hard and all... I figure once the kids are old enough to stay home by themselves it will be easier to get away for several hours. I guess we could wait until they are rebellious and don't want us around anyway. |

Here's a list I've put together, certainly not all of them but some I'll choose from: Apr 17th - Belews Lake Sprint. 750M Swim, 14.5 mi. Bike, 5k Run. May 8th - White Lake Half. Volunteer and support my friends (does vlounteeting guarantee me a spot next year?) May 9th - White Lake Sprint. 750M Swim, 14 mi. Bike, 5k Run. May 23rd - Greensboro Sprint (Innagural year at Hagan Stone Park). 750M Swim, 14 mi. Bike, 5k Run. Jun 6th - 36 Degrees North Sprint. 300M Swim, 13 mi. Bike, 5k Run (at Tanglewood Park, practically in my back yard!) Jul 10/11th - Triangle Tri in Raleigh. 750M swim, 17.5 mi. Bike, 5k Run (either the Sat or Sun - which are you doing?) Aug 21st - Lake Norman Sprint. 750M Swim, 17 mi. Bike, 5k Run. Sep 19th - Angel's Race. 300M Swim, 13 mi. Bike, 5k Run. Love the charity and it's my back yard! Sep 26th - Ironman Augusta 70.3 - determined to beat 7 hrs. this time. Oct 16th - Pinehurst Olympic. 1500M Swim, 30 mi. Bike, 10k Run. ... and I should probably exchange one of the earlier Sprints for an Olympic to help me prepare for the Half in Augusta, and I haven't even looked at FS Series or any other events yet. What about you? So, upon further research and planning my 2010 Season may look like this: 1) Apr 17 - Belews Lake Sprint (750m OWS, 14.5 mi. Master 1240 Knightdale/Raleigh | Subject: RE: Your Tentative Race Schedule for 2010 Klowman, I'm guessing the price increase might have made up your mind for you about Riverwood, went up Feb 1st. Anyone else worried these smaller races might not continue? Between the rough economy and price increases it just doesn't seem like they are filling as fast. I wonder if some of these races are going to have half the racers as a few years ago. |

Expert 987 Durham, North Carolina | Subject: RE: Your Tentative Race Schedule for 2010 DMarkSwan - 2010-02-02 3:43 PM Klowman, I'm guessing the price increase might have made up your mind for you about Riverwood, went up Feb 1st. Anyone else worried these smaller races might not continue? Between the rough economy and price increases it just doesn't seem like they are filling as fast. I wonder if some of these races are going to have half the racers as a few years ago. That certainly had something to do with it. With a smaller race, although fun, some of that excitement or "atmosphere" is not quite as strong, and so yes ... with the economy and the number of races I want to do this year, I'm trying to get the best value or bang for my buck. Another factor was the Feb 1st deadline before the price increase. I had another race to pay for plus the biggie which is Augusta 70.3 ... so if the due date was a little later I would most likely consider it ... I wonder if it's because these races aren't filling up, so they put such an early deadline or due date for the lowest entry fee ... trying to get more people to sign up early ... and hoping all the regulars will sign up later and just pay the higher fee. |
