did you not catch today's show with the lie detector tests?

when asked if you snuck out at 2 a.m. to have sex with another woman, you said "no," and the test indicates that was a lie.

really?  OMG!  you lied?  the humanity....

yep - great train wreck!!!

Oh man, I used to have fights with my mom every time Maury did the "OMG MAKE MY FREAK TEENAGER LOOK NORMAL" show (which was about once a week).

They'd take a goth or punk kid, and give them a makeover that made them look like they were just about to go to the yacht club with Muff and Uncle Biff. The moms would cry all over the set and bawl with gratitude, and the kids would cry all over the set and bawl about being sorry they'd been such embarrassing children. Occasionally you'd get a kid's barely stifled contempt instead. ("Don't you like your new clothes?!" "Sure." "See how happy your mom is, aren't you glad she's happy?!" "Uh huh.")

My mom would argue that those kids looked ridiculous, and did they ever think they'd get a job or go anywhere in life looking like that, and how awful was it that it took going on national TV to make them wake up to the real world.

I would argue that the show made all the kids look the same (beyond the country club garb, there was more than one show where they actually gave each kid the same clothes and similar hair), that kids need to dress crazy while they can because it'd probably be their only chance to do it on a daily basis, and that if the kids were just dressing crazy and weren't problem kids behaviorally or at school, then the parents were being jerks for not accepting their kids the way they were.

Then we'd be huffy with each other for a little while.

Maury got smart and realized he could make 100's of millions of dollars with trash tv.  Can ya blame him?
I love when people tell me, "Those people on Maury and Springer are just actors..."  oh trust me, the folks who say that just haven't been exposed to what this great country has to offer.    The street I grew up on had enough stories to run 6 months of these shows alone.

Depends on what you mean serious .
He was an anchor in DC and around the country until 83.  Then he went on to the very serious and prestigious new show: A Current Affair.  It's not too much of a stretch to go from that show to his own show today.  He was already married to Connie before A Current Affair started though.

Maury's late father was a serious sports journalist and considered one of the last great ones, Shirley Povich.

My guilty pleasure no doubt. Cheaters is another great show.

The best is when they test all of the 10 potential "dads" and none are the father. I am no dr., but pretty sure you can narrow down the date of conception within a week or so. Makes for quite the lifestyle. I know, stop rationalizing it, its damn good tv.

Classic Maury today:

A girl wanted to know if her ex-BF or her current BF was the baby daddy. After the ex was ruled out, the current BF dropped on his knee and asked her to marry him. Well.....results came back on the current BF (after the proposal) and it wasn't his either.

On the "at the break" teaser.....she told the producer that she was currently pregnant with her second child.....and that baby might be either the ex or the currents also.

We, watch the clips on Youtube all the time! Actually thought the show went off the air.

Actually, knew a couple that went on that show. The girl was a temp of course was trash and couldn't keep the job, but it was funny to watch that train wreck.

Another one is Springer who was once a serious journalist and MAYOR, but decided to go the other route and make a mint of the scum of society.

I thought journalism and politicking was also making money off the scum of society You can certainly make more of it in TV though...

I actually appreciate Springer's style. Most other talk show hosts work up fake moral outrage and righteous indignation on every single episode... Springer usually seems to be in as much disbelief as anyone else that people keep doing stupid things and then volunteering to come on his show.
