Yes Paul I would like to come and I have a res at an oliver hotel, but I just broke up with my girlfriend so coming alone and would rather camp or stay really cheap rather than the hotel.  Planning to come up around Friday and go home Monday.

I just started a new thread but thought I may copy it here too.

Due to a misunderstanding the volunteer co-ordinator for Ironman Canada has discovered they need 50 - 60 people to help man the aid station on top of the final climb to Yellow Lake! The race is THIS SUNDAY.

If you can help call the "Captain" of this aid station James Young 250-863-9186 or email him at: [email protected]

This was a fantastic and incredibly inspiring day!

I got absolutely soaked while stripping wetsuits, but I had a huge grin on my face the entire time.

I'll definitely be back to volunteer for 2011, and hopefully sign up to race for 2012

Huge Congrats to all of the Ironman Canada finishers!

I ended up being a part of the "last minute" call for volunteers at Yellow Lake Bike Aid station... which worked out well as I was going up there to see my boyfriend race anyway!!

What an awesome experience!

Thinking I'll volunteer again next year.. and sign up for 2012!!

IMC 2010 was my first full Ironman.  I have done several other races from sprint to HIM and the volunteers at IMC were amazing!  Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I will look to volunteer at this race in 2011 to race again in 2012!

Thanks again for all the support!

IMC 2010 was about the funnest and most full fillling race volunteering I've done to date. My buddy Alex and I started out taking bike into transition and helping the athletes rack their bikes and figure things out for Sunday. SOme people gave me goose bumps with their silly questions. After a while of walking people through I took over the security gate, letting people into the coral. THat was fun, seeing people I knew and letting the pros in was pretty cool. Race morning we were in the Transition Zone helping athletes with last minute things. One guy asked me where his Special Needs bags were supposed to go. 15 minutes before race time. I ran them out to the drop off point for him. Other than the usual nervous neoprene clad jittery athletes walking around I also chatted up the excited newbie volunteers. SOme of them were so horrible, they really had no idea about some of the questions and answers they were giving out. There needs to be a course you can take before you can be a volunteer! So the swim starts and less than an hour later the transition starts to get busy. For some reason that I still can't figure out, someone gave me a megaphone. Call out the athlete's numbers as they come near to get their S2B bags for them. Giving me a mega phone is like giving a crack addict some crack! After the swim we started stack all the bags up then took off to meet some friends out on the bike course for a picnic and some beers, but mostly for some beers! We settled down on Main St. right at the point where the bikes and runners criss-cross. As the pros start coming back into town a volunteer is calling out to the incoming bikes to move to the left. Left. Left. We kept telling him that the had to tell them go right. His left but their right. He just smiled, truly not understanding what were saying. Idiot volunteers, needs to be a course. Mind you knowing your lefts and rights might be a help as well! During the race some punk on a BMX was knocking over cones as the pros were coming in. The kid was riding on our direction and with having a couple of beers and the fact he was being an idiot, I took off after him, chased him down for a few blocks until some 80 year old woman pulled up next to me and asked if I wanted a ride! I jumped in and off we went after the kid. Nearly got him but he got away. Finished up the rest of the drinks, went back to the house, took a nap then back to the race. Later in the day Alex and I started taking chips off of the races then I went into finish line catching. What a fun and great day, ran into so many people that I knew and met a bunch more people that had really great days even with the weather being the way it was! Volunteering is a lot of fun!
