Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4 a.m. Had coffee, protein drink, a banana, and some sort of granola thing were given at the expo center. Did some stretching.

Wore Tri shorts and Nike Tank.
Event warmup:

Jogged very little and stretched.

Comments:

This was a really good run. This time, I placed myself in the appropriate pace area so it was much easier to get started running at pace. Last time I started too far back and it took a long time to get going.

It came fairly easy and I had room to push harder. I was watching my garmin and knew early on that I would come in under my goal of <1:54:00. I wasn't sure how long I could hold the pace, so I elected to just stay steady where I was rather than make it hurt. I'm happy with this as I know I have room to improve. According to McMillan, this pace says I am capable of qualifying for Boston 2012 (age up to 45) when I run my full mary next spring. I won't have time to build my run during Tri season, but as SOON as B2B is over, I am changing my slogan to "Marathoner in Training!"

Racing always makes me smile. It made me feel good when I was running and someone on the sideline pointed at me and said, "Look at that BIG smile!!!" Made me grin even bigger...

What would you do differently?:

Nothing really. Other than maybe push harder when I know I can.

Actually, I should use a fuel belt for the longer distances. I have a lot of trouble pausing at water stations and then "trying" to get the water into my mouth and swallow it. I stopped and walked three times at aid stations to drink water during this race, and it threw off my rhythm. I train with a fuel belt for 10+ mile runs, so I would be fine to use it during a race.

Which reminds me, I only drank water on the course. In training I usually use Nuun which is a sugar free electrolyte tablet. I better be more careful about electrolyte replacement during races. I've never had a sports drink before, and usually only grab water on course.

Stretched and got a massage.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing.

Event comments:

Definitely would recommend this race. It was very fun and well organized for an inagural event. There were free massages, pizza and beer! And the results were posted on the SAME DAY! Love it! Kudos to the race director!!!

Thanks!  It was great fun.  It took a moment, but I did realize who you were when you waved on the course!

Not so fast to White Lake for me; I have Beaver Dam first.  I need the wetsuit practice before White Lake!  Brrrrrrrrrrr!!!

You know I ALWAYS stress over making my goals!  Once I have a goal in mind it quickly becomes an obsession... (sigh)

Great job!  I knew you wouldn't have any trouble making your goal.  McMillan is pretty accurate.  And with another year of training, you will probably run that marathon even faster than you think you could now.  Congrats on a great race!!
