That I'm going to be going to school with people who weren't even alive during the 80's.  I feel old.  And I'm NOT old.

I'm going to go cry now.

Don't pay attention to the fact that you could be the same age as some of their moms.

I know, that doesn't help...

How's about being on line at the grocery store and seeing the sign:  "You must have been born on this date in 1989 or earlier to buy alcohol."  1989?!  I was already in college by then!!!

Old old old.

Yeah, for us they should change it to: "Were you drunk during most of 1989? You're OK"

Yes you will walk into your first class and go "are you people even old enough to shave?"  Then they will say stupid things (like what we said when we were their age) and you will sigh because it is simply too complicated to explain by texting.  Not to worry they won't even notice you at first because they will be busy on their phones texting or no their laptops on facebook.  This gets very annoying, btw, when they do it continually throughout class while you are trying to pay attention they are going click, click, click.  Quickly however it will become old hat to you and you will start talking to the children and find out their ok in their 18-21 year old way.  Have a great first semester.Laughing

Few years ago my mom went back to school and it was even funnier because the kids in her class were even younger than her own youngest child.  Awesome for her though. she learned how to use Auto-CAD and other cool programs which is amazing considering there weren't computers at all when she last attended school in the 70's.

You're not in that boat.

Or OUT of college by then...

As advisors for Alpha-Phi-Omega, we hang out with college kids a fair amount.  Yep...most of them are younger than my oldest son and one of the freshman pledges last semester knows my youngest two boys.

I used to work at a place where the staff was discussing a basketball game they had seen on the history channel, since it was before they were born. It was Israel winning the European Cup in 1977.

When they asked me if I show the show, I answered "No, I actually remember watching the game"

I am in college right now and this semester was my first in a traditional classroom instead of the night classes. What a difference! The night class was full of adult students, and we talked and shared ideas and engaged in learning. The regular classes are full of traditional college students that rarely come to class, don't EVER engage in conversation on the subject at hand unless forced to, sit with their computers and iPhones open and in use all the time, and sulk and complain about how much they hate school. I can't WAIT to go back to night classes, even if it means taking only one class at a time.

I was lamenting the upcoming 30th birthday to my family, including my G'Folks when my brother did the math and told me I was only 28. That was 30 (Very Good!) years ago.

Stay Young! I am!

Sadly some of my night classes are like this.  I keep wanting to ask them why they bother to come to class if they are going to spend all their time on Facebook.  Then I get to explain to them how to do their homework or how to complete this or that problem because they weren't paying attention (or maybe they just didn't get it).

My wife has gone back to university and is in her 3rd year.  I tease her about being the cougar... i get hit.  She is constantly annoyed and outright angry with how anoying the kids are.  I dont even like to be around when she has a group project to do... She is just in a differnt place than the children she is going to school with... amazing how 10 years or so and spending your own money changes things.

I hope they like oh my gawd, dont like totally like drive you like crazy like....

I was 47 when I when I went back to grad school full time.  I had completely white hair even then so it was obvious.  Kids were remarkably accepting.  I was at a completely different point in life.  They were at the point of discovering themselves and wondering how life, career, marriage, and childrenn would turn out .  I was at the point where I pretty well knew what my life would be.  We did not connect much on those areas.  But on school, I was just another student.   I was the guy who always had the homework done and would know the trick for solving problems.  I made some good friends whom I still see often.

Interestingly, I started swim/bike/run training and found BT while in school.  There were several guys in my lab who were bikers, swimmers, or runners.  A couple converted to triathletes too.  I could train with most of the kids.  The really fast ones I just talked to about training.   That was another area that I was on the equal footing.

Have fun, MR.  You will enjoy it.
