Overcast
Total Time = 1h 38m 4s
Overall Rank = 160/195
Age Group = 20-24
Age Group Rank = 30/33
Pre-race routine:

I stayed the night at my aunt's house which is about 20 min outside of Bellingham. So I was able to sleep in as late as I wanted since the recreational race did not start until 1pm. I headed over to the race about 2 hours early so I could see the end of the competitive race.
Event warmup:

No warm-up really. Walked around. Waded in the lake a bit.
Swim
  • 06m 21s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 26s / 100 yards
Comments:

I am fairly happy with my performance. I seeded myself in the 3rd wave and on hindsight I should have gone off in the first wave. I was the first out of the water in my wave and I passed about half of the people in the second wave. It was difficult passing at times because people were not swimming straight. I felt like I should have been able to go faster anyway. I had to do some breaststroke to sight and because I was getting tired. My swim time is probably about 30sec to 1 min faster because we had to run up a steep embankment and since I felt like I was going to pass out when I got out of the water, I walked most of it. A little girl standing next to the swim exit was yelling at me to run up the hill. I was thinking Ok you sprint 440 yard then try to run straight up a hill then you can tell me to run. I was quite annoyed. I bet that if I would have run up the hill I could have place first in my age group for the swim.
What would you do differently?:

Gone in the first wave and trained more. Sighted better. I need to practice my swim transitions so I don't feel so dizzy getting out of the water.
Transition 1
  • 03m 7s
Comments:

I was suprised that my wetsuit came off so easily. I kinda took my time in this transition because I was still trying to catch my breath from the swim.
What would you do differently?:

Hurry! I need to practice more.
Bike
  • 51m 48s
  • 10 miles
  • 11.58 mile/hr
Comments:

This was so bad! I don't even want to talk about it. I performed way below my expectations. I just could not get going. The hills were really hard for me. I even had to get off my bike on the really steep hill at the end of the course and walk my bike up half of it. I am almost ashamed of my performance. BOO!!
What would you do differently?:

Ride more. I really need to get on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 00m 57s
Comments:

I don't have bike shoes yet so I only had to rack my bike and throw my helmet off. Boy was I glad to be off the bike!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really.
Run
  • 35m 53s
  • 2.6 miles
  • 13m 48s  min/mile
Comments:

Ugh. All I can say is: Ugh.
What would you do differently?:

Run more. Obviously I am not a runner. Yet.
Post race
Warm down:

Drack some water. Ate a muffin and wandered around.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Hmm. . .Let me think real hard on this one. Maybe someone can help me out here?

Event comments:

I liked this race. I thought it was interesting that there was no body marking. This was really a bare bones community race but it was well organized. I thought the race director was really funny. I did not stay for the awards but apparently, they were pretty good. For $35 I thought this race was great and I will do it again next year. I can only improve my performance.

I didn't know how to discribe the hills for you and I should have warned you.   Run and Ride Lots.   Did you check out your photos?

Race director is pretty cool.  He is a lifeguard at the City indoor pool.

Good race Harmony! Don't be too hard on yourself. As long as you had fun, take the good things from it. Like the swim. Wow...4th fastest of everyone!! Now just take something that you want to improve and work on that. Each time you do another race, you'll get better! Hey, you're out there DOING IT! And fast swimming chicks are HOT!!
