Found Donkeys, talked, went potty. Got in a .75 warm-up with strides, various other things. Decent stretch after, focused on hips. More on that later.

Comments:

Two good weeks of solid runs leading up to this race had my confidence high. Coach asked me in the moring what my stategy was. I said, 'go out in 8:50's and keep runnign 8:50's". He wantyed me to start with 9:00's and see what happened. 9:00's for hte 13.1 miles gets me sub-2. Well, I started with 8:30's and had a hard time slowing down. The pee stop at mile 3 was too long and it hurt me time-wise and mentally.

Never really recovered and hit 5 miles in 48:00. THREE MINUTES SLOWER than I wanted. About mile 9 the wheels were coming off and my form fell apart. Slowed to a "jog" and pushed on. Even hitting mile 12 and Lambeau shortly thereafter did nothing for my pace or adrenaline like I thought it might.

For the first time in a long distance race,, my feet hurt today. I think the shoes were tied too tight. The real issue that gotr to me was my hips. Just not strong enough. I definitely need more strength training and core work.
What would you do differently?:

Go out in 9:00 miles, then chase the sub-2 at the end if I need to.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, got my medal, shirt, water. After that it was on to brats and chocolate milk. I love Wisconsin racing!

Dropped my stuff at the car, went back to tfinish line in time to see Donkeys and other friends finish. Nice BQ's for two Donkeys and a friend from church. Another friend from the Y missed Boston by 27 seconds. She was heartbroken. Tough to find words to say to her.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Core fitness, and my brain. I've got to learn from this...

Event comments:

Loved everything about this race. First rate operation. Great venue for a race.

Nice Race in spite of sore feet and potty breaks. I hear ya though, my intentions went south in no time...time and fatigue have a way of knockin' us backwards.
Wished I'd bumped into ya. I had a donkey shirt on too but never did find any other donks.

Way to knock it down.  Yea, when you loose momentum like you did, it's tough to get the machine humming again.

Another friend from the Y missed Boston by 27 seconds.

That just sucks.  I cannot imagine what that must be like.

Good effort Pete even though you didn't meet your goal and a good job keeping the cart moving even though the wheels feel like they came off.

Another great performance even though you feel you didn't do well.  I am trying the stength thing with my half mary training this year and will let you know how it works for me after the Madison half Mary.  Tell those demons in your head to take a hike.  You will SUCCEED!!!!
