Total Time = 1h 06m 33s
Overall Rank = 69/436
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 12/51
Pre-race routine:

Bagel with Peanut Butter & honey & 12oz Sugar-Free redbull... bottle of water to wash it down.

Event warmup:

1 mile run to get a lil' sweat going
aprrox. 300m swim to warm up.
Swim
  • 11m 54s
  • 549 meters
  • 02m 10s / 100 meters
Comments:

Don't know... I improved from my race in 2008, but way below what I swim in training and in other much more difficult races. I thought I was swimming smooth & hard... guess not!
Swim skin didn't make a bit of difference today... Oh well!
What would you do differently?:

Swim faster! HA!

train harder on my swim!
Transition 1
  • 01m 13s
Comments:

Struggled with my shoes for the first 50 yards of the bike... out of practice I guess. 8/51 in T1... not bad, but there's always room for improvement.
Bike
  • 30m 59s
  • 11 miles
  • 21.30 mile/hr
Comments:

For not riding hardly at all lately... can't really complain. Thought I might be able to break the 22mph mark, but it just wasn't to be today!

Improved over my pace at this race in 2008... 20.3 ---> 21.3.
What would you do differently?:

Train more on the bike!
Transition 2
  • 00m 47s
Comments:

solid transition... in & out. 8/51 in AG
Run
  • 21m 39s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

My strength... it was a good performance, but slower than 2008. The heat & humidity took it's toll. My HR was higher than usual for that pace and I struggled to hold a pace below 7:30...
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really... I ran as hard as my body would let me on this day.
Post race
Warm down:

water, water & more water... sweatin' like a SOB!
1 cold Shiner Beer - Thanks to the 'Incredibles' for bringing such tastey goodness.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heat & Humidity! and lack of training (especially the more high intensity stuff - intervals on bike & run)

Event comments:

This is one of the best Sprint Races in the Houston area (IMO)... Good competition & good course!

Just ONE cold shiner?? You Sir deserved many more. Way to keep that run a smoking fast and make the aero legs work.  Hmm you and me had the "how do you swim" fun.

Great race Marine.  Those are fast times and I'm sure you'll get faster.  I was nice to meet you and put a face with a name.  Looking forward to training with you and the rest of the NW BT'ers.

nice speed.  Humidity and heat are evil but it didn't seem to slow you down.  Great job.

Good race.  Run splilt was awesome especially in the heat and humidity.  Your bike will come back in no time and you've obviously got your transitions down to a science.  With all the BTers out there, I didn't meet anyone....sorry I missed you guys. Good luck in Buffalo Springs.
