HFP Racing
80F / 27C
Sunny
Total Time = 2h 29m 47s
Overall Rank = 56/249
Age Group = M3539
Age Group Rank = 11/25
Pre-race routine:

I ate some cereal and ate some muffins. I know, real groundbreaking stuff. I will be writing a book soon based on this knowledge
Event warmup:

Ran for about 5 minutes then floating in the water for 30 minutes because 1) It was hot and I was in a wetsuit and 2) they put in a 10 minute break between sprint and Oly racers. I had almost 30 minutes between the first sprint wave and my wave
Swim
  • 25m 18s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim was fairly uneventful. No real fighting or issues at the turns. The water was announced at 73 degrees but if it was then I have a vagina. I was at my threshold for suit/no suit. It started to get uncomfortably warm the last 300 meters or so. I think the course was short.
What would you do differently?:

I have been in the pool an average of 30 minutes week. Not enough but I still think I am better served by biking and running more.
Transition 1
  • 01m 34s
Comments:

It took me quite awhile to get the wetsuit unzipped. I walked until I could get the damn thing stripped to my waist. Then the fun run up the hill and my bike was in the back of transition. On the way I stepped on a half open pak of GU in transition. Thank you Mr slob tri guy, I really liked trying to wipe sticky spooge off my foot before biking.
Bike
  • 1h 13m 24s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 20.31 mile/hr
Comments:

My bike computer crapped out about 3 miles in so I was actually sort of pleased. I dont swim with a watch or run with one so why bike with one? I thought I did well for myself. My bike is currently handicapped in that I cant get into the easiest 2 cogs on the back cassette. The hills werent really an issue because I could handle them on the third cog on my small chainring but it meant alot of shifting between big and small to find the best gearing. I just tried to get my cadence up and my breathing easy
What would you do differently?:

nothing - note to the sprint people I saw on the olympic course, listen to the race director - you might save yourself some time.
Transition 2
  • 01m 23s
Comments:

A little bit slow. One of my shoes fell off my bike about 20 feet from transition. I racked my bike got all dressed and then ran back, got my shoe and dropped it back at my transition.
What would you do differently?:

tell one shoes to stay on my bike
Run
  • 48m 6s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 45s  min/mile
Comments:

I am actually a little disappointed in my time. I felt very good the whole run except I walked the aid station at mile 5 (no physical pain just I lost my brain battle). I really enjoy the narrow trails and shade and I like running on the gravel and grass ( I am a trail runner by nature) There were times it was difficult to pass but I am ok with that. I think I could have gone a little faster but it was starting to get pretty toasty out there.
What would you do differently?:

not stop and walk at the aid station.
Post race
Warm down:

drinking copious amounts of coke and water

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I was working my daughters swim meet on saturday from 8 - 5 PM in the sun. I was very tired from that. I also didnt really taper any for this race.

Event comments:

hey hey hey look at me - new overall PR, bike PR and just a hair off my PR swim. Glad I signed up. Only two races to go - sylvania OLY and the Rev3 HIM

I am pretty sure the vagina in question is figurative, not literal. In any case, if I did have one, I would have taken third in the W35-39. I couldnt win a race even if I tucked

Nice job! I know they took out the huge hill but a 1mph improvement on the bike from last year is awesome!

I didn't see you out there... must have been too fast!
