On a lighter note...I thought we'd dedicate this post to cute things our kids say about our sport.

My 2.5 year old said:

"Someday, when I get older, I get a two-weirdo (aka.2 wheeler) bike so I can ride in a race like Mommy!"  (picture her exurberance here!

"My Mommy does Trifons and I always yell "Goooooooo, MOMMY!"

"Mommy - how your bike ride?  You stinky?"

Those with kids, neices, nephews, etc...share with us!

Melanie

That is so funny! Good for you for creating such an attitude of empowerment in your daughter!  And you're right, last is still a place!

my daughter also said 'trifons' for the longest time. now, at age 4, she can say 'triathlon' clear as a bell (a word that should be in every 4 year olds vocabulary, right?). last year, after i got a birthday present of a bianchi veloce road bike, my husband coached ella to yell 'molto veloce, mama!' which i believe means 'go fast, mama'. hee hee. she talks about doing her own race, and knows the order of the events by heart. she's hopeful that she'll be able to walk the swim part though, since she doesn't like putting her face in the water (she really likes to walk in the zero depth pool and move her arms like she's doing the front crawl), and that they will allow her to ride a pink bike with training wheels. the run? that she has down! she's very speedy!

fi isn't really talking yet (she'll be two in september), but she can say 'bike' 'ride' bike ride' 'helmet' and 'weeeeee!'

My 2.5 year old is very cute about my excersize.  She always says "Mommy biking"  when we drive by a store in the next city that I get dropped off  to start a ride if we're coming from family's house.  The other thing she does lately is pick up my 2 3lb dumbells and she lifts them up and does squats and makes a grunting sound.  It's so cute, though I have no idea where she got it since I never do squats and she doesn't actually ever see me excersize anyway.

At my tri Saturday, she got so excited when I was biking in that she whacked my hubby in the face and broke his glasses.

All I can say is that our first is only 6 months old and sounds like he is either talking to Angels or trying to talk to Flipper.

Am SO looking forward to hearing all the cute stuff he's gonna say.

another funny if that i have a couple race shirts with images of runners or bikers on them. fi will point and say 'mama' and 'papa'.

You should sign up for that Tour (points at TV) next year.  I've always wanted to go to France.

Yeah, Tambra Jo! I want to go to France again! You should sign up and we'll have a BT group as your support crew!  But ya gotta wear pink!

My 5yo daughter (Nola...the bestest girl in the world!) calls Lance "Lamps". We were in the bookstore last night and she pointed out every magazine with Lamps on the cover.

My daughter's 17 mos old and everytime I pull out the bike to go for a ride she confiscates my helmet and begins parading around the room with it. She says: "Go? Go? Go?" And then when i take my helmet from her she begins waving and saying "bye" in her most high-pitched voice.

Just last night she grabbed my water bottle and started sprinting (very fast for such small legs...) towards the door yelling "Go? Go? Go?" I said, "No we have to go to bed soon." She started crying and tossed the bottle.

Of course she gets that from my wife.

When my 5 year old niece was at her speach therapy session a few weeks ago (she is severly hearing impaired)...they were working on the "th" sound. The teacher says a word and then she is supposed to use it in a sentence. The teacher said marathon...emphasizing the "th"...my niece responded and corrected her..."My Aunt ran in a triathalon." The therapist was a bit surprised. It was cute though.

Same said niece, after watching me in my first tri--- "I want to do that!. I can run super fast"...and headed towards the finishers shoot at her attempt for a finish. Sadly, there were others still coming in so we had to stop her and quash her fun. But one day I think she will do it! She is anxiously looking forward to the kids race. She is quite the bike rider-- very fast!

In my tri club we have a monthly aquathon series (swim/run) and they also an aquackathon for the kids (roll, crawl, gather rubber ducks, run etc). My daughter, "Dadyourembarassingmecow" is less competitive than me and never wants to compete in anything. Last night she asked when the next aquackathon was. I told her sometime this month. She said " Can we go? I only have 2 more races before I turn 7 and move to a new age group".

Already worrying about aging up.
