Overall Rank = 159/303
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 30/54
Pre-race routine:

bagel/PB, coffee, BM, all that. Drove out alone. Arrived, saw Sue7013, Renee, and TriTakeMeAway. Set up T and talked. Went to swim start and it's really kicking!
Event warmup:

water looked rough. Got in, swam some to get used to it. It's doable, chill out. Relax, keep elbows high and you can do it. ohhmmm.......
Swim
  • 14m 57s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 49s / 100 yards
Comments:

Started front and far. I found a rhythm really good, no crowd, nothing, yay!!! That was short lived as the current pushed me to the pack. It was mad- lots of breaststrokers, sidestrokers, even people giving up. It was rough. I handled it pretty well, I think, rounded the buoys and sprinted out. My watch was about to come off in the home stretch so I just grabbed it and swam with it in my hand. Even got across the top rectangle part without going off course against the current!
What would you do differently?:

try not to get sucked in the swim mob. I was so good the first couple hundred yds till current pushed me intot he crowd.
Transition 1
  • 03m 23s
Comments:

I went to the wrong spot!!! Found my spot, and realized I dropped watch and goggles and cap at the wrong spot. So went back and retrieved them, this wasted so much time! Lots of bikes still there so I felt great.
What would you do differently?:

Duh. Make sure I get to the right spot. Never happened before, so I guess once it's done, won't happen again, right?
Bike
  • 42m 37s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 17.46 mile/hr
Comments:

two loop course. Not bad, lots of blocking. I passed lots of folks. Lost a water bottle on second lap trying to put it back in the holder.
I did not see ONE USAT Marshal out on that course!! Where were they????
What would you do differently?:

Go faster. This was only 12 seconds faster than last year's time.
Transition 2
  • 01m 20s
Comments:

only got out of one shoe. oop. Ran with one bike shoe.
What would you do differently?:

get out of shoes earlier.
Run
  • 33m 41s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

It was hot by now. I was really hoping for an improvement here, but just 39 seconds faster. I'll take it though. Faster is faster, right? It's the same course. Last one was raining and this one was HOT! I hadn't done any bricks in a month, so hammy cramped up. I walked a couple times but not as much. I did, however, make a kick ass sprint to the finish!
What would you do differently?:

Run faster. Stop walking so damn much.
No gatorade at water stop, but Cytomax. I didn't like it. It was cold, but not good, kind of bitter. I downed one in the hopes it'd ward off my leg cramps, sort of did.

Post race
Warm down:

walked around. No great food choices. Just had nanners, grapes, and H2O.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I have some sort of fear of running fast.

Event comments:

I originally thought my swim time was 4 minutes faster, but I was thinking of another race. oop. It was just a minute faster than last year's.
Overall I"m happy with it, I finished more near the top half, just 3 off my AG for top half. Overall wasn't so bad either. So I'm a solid MOP now, I guess? I'm moving on up!

Great Race Christine!  I had to laugh about the one shoe transition...only because I did the same thing in my last race.  LOL!  Your swim absolutely rocked!  Awesome pace you set.  Sounds like you were faster in everything compared to last year.  What a great race.  Congrats.

Christine, it was great to see you again. Great job! Your swim is looking good!

The highlight for me was when we veg'd out on the hammock, post-race. They really should have opened the beer truck sooner, tho'.

Are you doing Suncoast Tri in 3 weeks?
