Total Time = 1h 05m 7s
Overall Rank = 8/1000
Age Group = Invitational
Age Group Rank = 0/
Event warmup:

Jogged a mile with some 30" pickups and swam a few 100.
Swim
  • 06m 46s
  • 547 yards
  • 01m 14s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swam strong and decided not to bother drafting off anyone. Pushed the swim harder than normal knowing the competitive field that was there I needed every second I could gain. Came out of the water only 10s ahead of Brad
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Think I'll start pushing the swim regularly, I was able to recover quickly on the bike.
Transition 1
  • 01m
Comments:

Results screwed up my T1 time so I'm estimating it. No sunglasses this time so it was just helmet on and run out.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 33m 30s
  • 14 miles
  • 25.07 mile/hr
Comments:

Finally broke 25mph on the Powertap and results! Brad ran me down in transition and we started biking at the same time. I look down to see 25-25.5mph and he is gapping me with ease, later when talking with him find out he was going ~28mph then.

After the 1st u-turn I saw a pace line gaining on me, tried to hold them off but with ~1mi to go Milford tapped me on the back to let me know he caught me, punk! Road into transition with the pace line of ~5 guys and saved my legs as much as I could since I knew all these guys could run.

I was conservative with my pacing because I haven't done many threshold/V02max intervals yet this season. Ended up with an average of 272W, for a sprint this should really be 300-320W.
What would you do differently?:

For this time of my season, nothing. Once I get some harder intervals under my belt the avg power better be 300+
Transition 2
  • 00m 37s
Run
  • 23m 13s
  • 3.5 miles
  • 06m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

Came out of transition right behind Milford and could tell he couldn't get his legs moving cause he wasn't gapping me. Ran behind him for the first mile or so and then he took off. Shortly after I was being passed by a few other guys then Ritter flew by me, could tell he was hauling!

I held a great pace for me and current training, just amazing how fast those guys can run.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing for now, need to gain more running speed.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Current training has just been building volume, need some more intensity for the sprints especially for my running.

Overall I'm happy with the race, I swam/biked/ran faster than last year and had a great time racing against some tough competition.

Event comments:

Aaron has improved the race by a ton from last year. He has listened to the feedback of the athletes and implemented every valid issue/suggestion I've heard. It started with a great packet pickup, well executed race, great post race and awards. I look forward to his future races and hope to be back at this one next year.

Nice race- it is certainly amazing to see others that are faster. I read somewhere that no matter what you do, there will be someone out there going faster than you. I was cracking up at the comment of the guy tapping you on the back.. must be different racing with a pace line on a tri.
Again, nice quick job.

Nice job breaking the 25mph mark on the bike!  I knew you could do it.  You've worked hard.  I think not everyone realizes how far you have come since your first tri.

Great race man! Sorry for towing up 4 other guys with me to you. Not my intention!

Oh and Brad did 27.9mph for the ride, so he just kind of went 28mph the whole time. He had great day.
