(or lack of it) First of all I posted this while setting in a traffic jam due to an auto accident, second I'm not complaining about the rule, or the fact that I lost two minutes. I'm glad the USAT monitors theses races. I just wanted to no if this has ever happend to anyone else. I do race hard, and I like to win, and like most of you I have ran into a group of cyclist that are taking up the entire road. We have to remember there are lots of new triathletes to this sport and they may not be as serious as all of us. If this happens I hope you make them feel more comfortable than most have made me fill using this forum.. For the BEAR, I have a Masters degree, (from a college....) I would be more concerned with my times, then my spelling... LOL Im glad everyone got such a kick out of this.... Not to make you feel uncomfortable. Just noticing... Welcome, and I do hope you stick around. BT is a great place. |

Well, I have "talked" to cyclists as I pass (or have been passed), but it's rarely more than just a few words -- nothing I would even have to slow down to fully express. This past Saturday, in fact, was a case in point. Second loop of a 2-lap bike leg (Oly distance) and the sprint was happening at the same time. Leader came by me just before I passed some one else. Breezed by me, in fact. So as I passed the other guy, I said, "He passed me like I was standing still." I got a "no kidding" reply, and we were back in our zones. But if you're having a conversation with some one else on the bike, you're not riding hard enough.  |

I thought of this post when chatting with a fellow triathlete while executing a pass. I made sure to continue forward progression and completed the pass in under 15 seconds, though. |

People probably would have gone a bit easier on you if you had titled the thread: "I ruined the best race of my life by blatantly disregarding USAT rules" rather than inferring that the USAT was carrying out some vendetta against you. It actually cost me 3rd place in the series (I manged to keep my AG win by 5 seconds). I was passing on the climbs and decided to do a double pass so I wouldn't send a team-mate 3 length back by only passing him. It took me 17 seconds and 'being nice' cost me 2 minutes. I spoke to the official and he was awesome and explained to me why I got the penalty and the benefits of how I could have done things differently. I took it as a learning experience and went forth. |

Having only done this once I can't add much, but will say that I ran into several groups of riders that were spending more time chatting then pedalling.. Being a slow runner killed me last weekend when weather turned the Tri into a Duo. Put me way back in the pack going into the ride. Found myself weaving through groups of riders and making several right side passes when groups and riders refused to move right. The near 50KM/H gusts and continuous 30KM/H winds made the situation worse. A course official actually yelled a warning at me to only pass on the left as myself and two other riders weaved through a large pack. |

I read a lot of the posts and felt they were snobby so I didn't bother commenting earlier. Welcome to the forum. I know a couple CIO's and brilliant engineers who have pretty horendous spelling. Likewise, I know a few folks who make <$30k per year who rarely, if ever spell a word incorrectly. We all have our priorities in that part of our lives. I didn't read any whinning in your original post either so I didn't see the need for some of the posts but to each his/her own. |

It sounds to me like it caught you by surprise, which kind of sucks, but that's life. Lesson learned. You're already doing much better than I ever hope to do in a tri. I have double passed before and thought nothing of it (thinking it was OK). It would seem that your responsibility would only to be to get your front wheel past the first person's front wheel within 15 seconds and then to get past the second person's front wheel in another 15 seconds...
