Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Let me get this straight... You state the rule that you broke (not completing the pass within 15 seconds), and then claim it's okay because you weren't breaking ANOTHER rule (blocking)? Tell me you're not serious... |

Congrats on your finish, but sounds like the official made the proper call. I'll admit that riders talking 2 abreast is common in local tris. No harm-no foul for BOP (unless a safety issue), but they seem to call stuff closer FOP. Consider it a learning experience for Nationals. |

No harm-no foul for BOP (unless a safety issue), but they seem to call stuff closer FOP. Consider it a learning experience for Nationals. Can't say I agree with this. I think the rules should be applied the same whether front of pack or back of pack. I can't tell you how many times in small local races (especially two loop courses) I have encountered groups of five or six competitors riding together in group just chatting away. This becomes a safety hazard because it is difficult to pass them safely as they are often riding two or three abreast across the road and not paying attention. The time to chat with friends is after the race. Personally, I tend to race sprints all out, so talking to others on the course isn't an option. I know some people just participate for fun, but it is still a competition with rules, and everyone should know and follow those rules whether they expect to win their age group or finish DFL. I was in the race the OP refers to, and finished 13th. I personally didn't see any blatant rules violations during the race, but I did notice that the official handed out quite a few penalties for a small race which I thought was unusual. I don't have a problem with that at all ... just an observation. http://www.setupevents.com/files/LenoirUSAT.pdf Edited by rventuri 2010-09-06 12:19 PM |

If their goal is finishing... and they know how long it takes them start to finish in "real time"... you could add on 60 penalty minutes, and they would still ride 6 wide... all Im sayin'. |

I'm (relatively) much faster on bike than swim, so I get annoyed by slower riders not staying right. Esp in local events staged as fund raisers for swim clubs where we get lots of FAST swimmers (<90sec/100M) who are BOP cyclists (<15mph). |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Can't say I agree with this. I think the rules should be applied the same whether front of pack or back of pack. I agree with you but I think it's just a matter of resources. Especially in longer races, it's tough to monitor the entire bike course. Plus it creates even more hassles if they put too many official vehicles on the course. Also the drafting rules are enforced more strictly when there's intent. I've seen people clump together on steep uphill sections and the officials let it slide as long as they stretch back out once they crest over the top. |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I understand, and definately don't want more official vehicles in the way. I will say that the vast majority do respect the rules and treat the event as a athletic competition (which it is IMO), and not like a charity ride, which a USTA event is not. Don't want to reopen the whole competition vs participation debate ... and I am ok with either approach ... as long as everyone plays by the same rules and respects their fellow competitors or participants. |

![]() | ![]() Funny, I did not realize that I opend up a can of worms with this particular rules violation and most importantly my spelling. (or lack of it) First of all I posted this while setting in a traffic jam due to an auto accident, second I'm not complaining about the rule, or the fact that I lost two minutes. I'm glad the USAT monitors theses races. I just wanted to no if this has ever happend to anyone else. I do race hard, and I like to win, and like most of you I have ran into a group of cyclist that are taking up the entire road. We have to remember there are lots of new triathletes to this sport and they may not be as serious as all of us. If this happens I hope you make them feel more comfortable than most have made me fill using this forum.. For the BEAR, I have a Masters degree, (from a college....) I would be more concerned with my times, then my spelling... LOL Im glad everyone got such a kick out of this.... |
