cwpeters - 2011-05-01 5:22 AM Swim has been shortened and moved. It will be a 1000 yard triangle north of transition. Entrance and exit on the same beach. Shorter walk than going to the pier but longer run to T1.
under statement of the millineum?

The morning started off very windy, with whitecaps and lots of chop. It calmed down considerably. I have a very nice swim, just a little bouncy. The water was very pleasant, temperature-wise.

It was pretty cool to see everyone out of wetsuits.

Congrats to everyone who raced today!!!  Hope everyone had a safe and successful race.  Race report is up, had a few mishaps and a near death experience but finished 15 seconds faster than I had projected, so all in all it was a good day.  Looking forward to how everyone else's race went.

Had a great day as well.  PRed all 3 disciplines (even accounting for the shorter swim).  It really was no too hot even thought I was in one of the later waves.

It got pretty crowded on the course however with "slower" waves ahead of us.  At one point we had bikes 4 wide (yeah I'm sure THAT"s legal)  Bike course was VERY windy and it was hard to keep down in aero at times with aero wheels.  Just dropped into the drops and hammered it.

Great race as usual.  However they REALLY NEED to do something about the swim.  This is the 3rd year in a row they have had issues.

This was my first time watching a tri and I was over by the mount line waiting to see a friend of mine come out of T1.  I saw a woman get on her bike and as she started to go her chain fell off.  She was obviously flustered and could not get it back on.  I was so impressed to see another woman stop go back to her and put her chain on for her.  I knew I was going to love this sport and after watching I can not wait to get my first under my belt.

My Garmin measured it at 0.54 miles from the exit of the swim (on the beach/sidewalk transition) to the exit of T1.  So a good 1/2 mile run on the sidewalk.

Great race as usual.  However they REALLY NEED to do something about the swim.  This is the 3rd year in a row they have had issues.

This is why I won't be back...   I was unlucky enough to race it 2 years ago when swim was canceled outright.  They even tried to push it into May this year trying to avoid the same conditions.   Shame because it is a great course and city otherwise.   If I was local I wouldn't mind, but to travel and make plans would have me second guessing.   I know it is not there fault and quite unfortunate.   Likely reason it has not sold out as quickly as years past.   They get a good race off in 2012 and maybe it comes back as one of the top Olympics around.

My thoughts would be for them to move the swim to that location every year, they can still have the pier in the background for the sake of a good picture.  Let them also flip flop the entrance and exit to transition so I don't get blisters from the pavement next year.

From what I hear the pros were able to go into the bike exit, get their bike and come out like nornal(this is hearsay, anyone witness this) unlike the rest of us regulars who braved the sidewalk.  The only nice thing about the long run to T1 was the throngs of people who were able to cheer us on, which had they of used the "regular" course they can't fit as many people on the seawall.

And while i'm at it, we run right past the beer truck on the exit of T2, can't a brother get a beer?  I mean how great would that be?

The race was as awesome as ever. During the awards ceremony Philip noted that they now have a viable option to race off the beach and will be able to extend it out to the full 1500m if they need to utilize it again in the future. We were watching the pros come out of the water, so did not see their t1, but looking at their times (all 3 minutes or under) I would not doubt they did go in and out of the exit. They also had the pro bikes racked by the exit this year (instead of by the swim in), so clearly they must have had some idea that they might have to execute this plan. I too would have liked to do the whole swim, but at the end of the day we all had to race the same race. I have done long-run transitions before (Nautica NYC anyone?) - it is just all in a day. But if they could figure out how to flip the transition area around as part of the change it would be great. St. Anthony's is a blast every year - our crew will keep coming back!

This was my first time at St. A's, and only my 3rd triathlon experience. Our relay team won 9th place for the Mixed Division which I am very happy about! I did the running leg but next year I plan on doing the whole thing. I agree they should just move the swim and flip the transitions. My swimmer wasn't too happy with the half mile run barefoot either, the whole reason he did a relay was so he didn't have to run. Oh well, had a great time and can't wait til next year!

RR is up

I was very pleased with this race all the way around

Although, maybe I am wrong but always thought expos had aggresive pricing, there were a ton of items priced higher there than I see normally on other sites.

The LG Race Revo bag they were selling for $75 is $59 on trisports and they wouldnt price match...bleh not very many giveaways. Did get my BP taking and was not pleased so thats opening a new can of worms.

Lunch at Gatsby's across from the expo was awesome though!

Okay now I am irritated! Yesterday at the awards they called my Relay Teams' name as 8th place. When I went up there the lady said there was an insert? and it will be updated online so we placed 9th. I just looked at the race results and we are 8th! WTF!!!!!! I know it's not 1st or 2nd place but still we just want what we deserve!

Could be worse!  A training partner of mine should have placed 9th in his division and they completely omitted him from the standings completely.  At least you got some, though the wrong, hardware.  According to the standings he went home as if he never participated yesterday AND did not get the hardware he rightfully deserves!

I emailed the Race director this morning telling them about the results mishap and they checked and we did actually come in 8th place so I am picking up new plaques. Yeah for them making it right! :0)

Sucks that your friend's time wasn't recorded. I overheard some relay teams that did not have any run times posted, who knows why it happened.

And this is the major reason I will never do this race again.  If someone sneezes in the water he cancels or modifies the swim.  *sigh*

I came to the thread to see if the swim was shortened.  I was looking at some results and couldn't believe the swim times I was seeing!  Now I know why!

I really really wish the St. A's RD could have been on the beach to watch the 2009 LA Triathlon.  He would have cr@pped his pants.  Worst swim conditions I've ever seen (100 times worse than anything I ever saw at St. A's in three years there) but the race went on as planned and everyone was safe and happy!  The St. A's RD needs to take a few lessons from that RD's book!  He needs to give people a little more credit and let them swim...
