Subject: Ride from Breakers Express on Sunday Morning?
Hey all, hope you are enjoying the taper.  Waited until the 11th hour to book a hotel because of a late injury....knock wood, everything is OK and I'm game on.  Will be staying at Breakers Express and am looking for a ride to the race on Sunday morning so I don't have to awaken the sleeping beasts  my children and have the wife drive me over at zero-dark thirty....anyone else staying here that has an extra seat?

Thanks!
Bill

Glad to hear you are in officially! I am staying at Lighthouse Point cabins, so unfortunately I will not be doing any driving race morning, though I am sure someone can hook you up!

We were supposed to start tapering already? I've still got a century to ride tomorrow and 6k yards to swim Tuesday before I start to taper, crap, I hope I am not too late on that haha! 2 weeks!

Late to the game here... considering a last minute sign up for this one...

Can anyone tell me if they have ONLINE athlete tracking?  I can't seem to find info on their website and my family would not be traveling with me and I'm sure they would want to know how I'm doing... since I just did IMKY last weekend.

I can't believe this race is in almost a week!! Complete confidance in myself at this point that I WILL finish. Very paranoid about getting sick from the kids at school! One just got sent home this afternoon.

Here comes the scrub downs and constant use of sanitizer.

I have to agree on the bike - it's essentially flat. There is the one hill that is a block long - last year there were people who wouldn't/couldn't/or didn't gear down for the one block long hill that were falling over...

If you've been biking over a few highway overpasses - that is the general landscape of the bike course.

And good news that they switched to Gatorade - the CeraSport they used last year was horrible.

Wish I were going back to Sandusky next weekend - enjoy everyone!

You, sir, are CRAZY!!! That being said.....I wish I could join you, but i'm working on my 5th day of being sick since IMKY. Plus, i'll be on a ship heading to the western Caribbean. However, I will be rooting for you and the other participants. I did the half last year and absolutely loved it. Rev3 puts on a great show. Enjoy!

No doubt I'm crazy! Who knows how this will end.... Have fun on e cruise... I did one back in June. So lucky you aren't training on it. Treadmill runs on sea days were brutal.

I'm a decent swimmer, posted a 1:09 at IMKY last weekend, but I'll be towards the back as well. Never done a mass run in start. Nervous.

It wasn't too bad last year.

I would highly recommend swimming on Saturday. Last year they had a little clinic - whether they do or not - Erie is shallow. Helps to know how far out the bottom goes - it's a ways (assuming they go off the east side of the penninsula as last year).

I am not a strong swimmer - 1:45ish last year - but there was plenty of room - and people were actually saying "excuse me" - something you don't experience too often.

I ended up starting in the middle of the pack on the inside of the lane. I decided I'd try to head right for the buoys taking the shortest distance.  Not sure if that was a smart move as I'm not the strongest swimmer - I did it in 1:37.  The first leg out was really jammed up - almost had to do a tarzan swim to breath because I was getting hit, kicked, grabbed, and run over - pretty much what you'd expect with 450 people all starting at once.  However, even though it was chaos to begin everyone was polite about it - no one got upset at all.  And once I hit the first turn buoy it seemed to break up and I was able to get clear water and finally got into a comfortable rhythm.  I'm assuming that that's the point where pretty much everyone else had passed me

Bike bottle exchange: is it an actual EXCHANGE or handouts? Are they handing out the Gatorade bottles or mixed stuff in regular bike bottles?

Sadly I think I am looking forward to this mass start. My first IM was an independant race with a few hundred peeps, but my last 4 have been IM brand with 2500+ folks trying to drown each other the first couple hundred yards. Should seem like a nice easy swim on Sunday Wink

The last number I heard from Rev3 was about 450 in the full and 750+ in the half.  The mass start was really fun last year.  You walk so much from shore that it was a great thing to talk and cheer with everyone else.

Crazy as it sounds, I am most looking forward to the tattoo numbers.  I think that will look so cool compared to magic markers.
