Another valve extender question

I have never had a problem with my Zipp valve extenders - perhaps in your case the issue is not the extender but the pump?

What extender? I'm using Topeak valve extenders both 40mm and 85mm and they work great with a pump or with a CO2 setup. They also don't require removable stems nor do they need you to leave the original valve open.

I tried two different pumps and then tried my pump on a regular tube.  It works great on the regular presta valve..just doesn't seem to fit well on the extender.

Could you try a different valve extender with the same pump?  Or maybe rig up a way to seal around the extender with some electrical tape or something?  I realize that would make it harder to pack the pump, but if that gets air in the tire with fewer cartridges it might be worth it.

I'm out of time for a new valve extender.  I'm doing my last two significant rides this weekend and I don't want to make any big changes after that.  I borrowed the wheels or I obviously would have figured out this problem before.

I'm just trying to figure out if I'm missing something obvious.  But I guess not.  If I end up with a flat I will just have to hold onto the CO2 pump for dear life!  I could get the floor pump to stay ON it just doesn't seat as nicely as the pump seats with a presta valve.

Maybe I'm not making sense.

When you guys say removable core are you talking about those tubes that you can unscrew the top part of the presta valve off?

Funny, I thought the last tube I had like that was broken.   It worked on my bike for a long time...but I used to accidentally unscrew it now and then.

I feel your pain. I currently use Zipp extenders and one works perfectly and the other does not. It may have to do with the valve working itself closed so air has nowhere to go but I don't know. Topeaks did not work well for me either. I wish someone would just make a stem long enough for a 90mm wheel.

It makes sense.  Sorry I can't be more helpful.  I've never tried using my CO2 pump with a valve extender.  Guess it's something I should think about now.

Jen it's a pain and any pump does not seat well on extenders. I struggled a bunch with it when I got my new Zipps and thought I was doing something wrong.

I read a thread on ST and asked at my bike shop.

I find it is a two person job, one to hold the head of the pump on the valve extender and other to pump and it works okay.

Some tubes you can remove the whole valve and replace it with longer valve which is what others ^^^ have been talking about so then you have the exact right length valve you need.

When I need new latex tubes I'm going to buy the type with removeable valve and fix the problem but until then I'll make due.
