Hi all-

I'm in Golden Valley for the next 2 weeks and am looking for a place to swim. It seems that some of the Y's do not have day passes.  Are there other options?

Thanks!
Tim

Try the Ridgedale Y in Minnetonka.  Before I was a member of LTF, I used to swim here at lunchtime.  They would let me purchase a day pass.  Don't know if they still do, but it's worth a try:

They also have a 5-day free pass offer going on right now.

If Edina's not too far, you can try here:

Daily rate is $6

Thanks for the info, everyone. I went to the Downtown Y tonight. The Ridgedale Y said they don't do day passes, and the 5-day pass requires a tour and membership talk. Not sure I want to sit through that.

I'll give Optum a call tomorrow and see if we can work something out. The 6AM masters classes would be great, and maybe a spin class if I'm here over the weekend. I didn't bring my biking clothes, but could probably fake it with my jammers for a class.

Now to find a running route for tomorrow. Otherwise, it's 4 miles on the hotel dreadmill...

Optum is great and you can pay as you go, so simple if not inexpensive.

I go to LA Fitness.  I wonder if they could be talked into a pass.  Their membership is so cheap, only about $30/month, they might take that for full access for your trip.

Can you run during the day, or are you looking for an evening route?  Golden Valley is a bit close to "the hood", so that can be tricky.

If you're brave/tough, you could easily enjoy a run around one of our many lakes.  The most convenient options for your location would be Calhoun, Isles or Cedar Lake.  Isles is very pretty with the fanciest houses.  http://www.minneapolisparks.org/default.asp?PageID=4&parkid=258

Did you bring your winter running clothes, Arizona boy?

P.S.  If you don't care about speed, I'd be up for meeting at the lakes and running with you tonight.

Yeah, it got way too cold last night! I was hoping to do my 8 mile run outside this morning but ended up doing it inside again. I brought my winter running clothes but they weren't designed for the arctic!!!

Tomorrow will probably be the downtown Y in the morning for a swim and run. Work's been keeping me late. Just enough time to eat and go to bed! I haven't called Optum yet either. Are they pricey?

My wife told me she had the windows open today because it was so warm at home...

I sure am jealous of you Arizonans - in the winter, anyway.

Check out the Optum link from above (http://www.optumhealthperformance.com/classes.php)  It shows the times and prices.  Although that's for masters, I am not sure if they offer an open swim option.

Lifetime Fitness in Plymouth has an 25yd pool. I think 8 lanes which is not far from Golden Valley.

Thanks for all of the help. I ended up at Optum this morning for the master's class. It's a nice facility. If I had a bike here, I'd go for the 4-hour class on Saturday.

Mad props to you people in MN! For my two weeks out there, I got to run outside exactly zero times. I don't know how you keep up your form in the winter, I think I would end up getting fat(ter) every year. Thanks again for giving the info. I'll probably be back next spring or summer. I'm going to avoid the winters if at all possible Smile

Who said we didn't get fatter?   Gotta keep warm somehow!  It's actually not too bad with the right gear, or so they say...  Let us know when you come back next - we'll do that nice lakes run!
