I added a new race that was announced this week as part of the 2011 NHL All-Star weekend.  Looks to be a great addition to a great weekend in January.

Very cool! I had not heard about this one. Having played hockey most of my life this would be a fun one to do.

This will be my first 5k since getting my knee shattered in July by a pick up truck, I was training for my first tri. I also am bringing a friend of mine. He just started running last year and will be his first. So excited to get my official comeback going, since this is the six month mark to the day!

Hmmmm...I just signed up for the Tobacco Trail Half in March, but this could be a good one to shake the legs out in between long runs.

I have probably 10-15 jerseys from teams I have palyed on over the years. Do you think anyone would care if it wasn't a Canes jersey?

I would expect several jerseys being worn in the race.  I know during the Friesen 5K in the fall, there are always people running in Canes jerseys.

Did well, loved the cold, ran a 21:34, so wasn't too upset with that! Wish the company would have ranked everyone with chip time, not gun time, since I got stuck in the back and took me 30 seconds to hit the mats. But loved it, combining hockey and running, hope they do something like this each year!

Set a PB with 42:39!! Considering I am only 4 months out of knee surgery... I'll take it. BTW, you should have had two times. Gun time and Chip time.

I am thrilled with my time and had a great time with the race. Hope you all did.

It was a nice race yesterday. I hit a personal best as well, at 22:56. I've been trying to get under 23:00 for some time now. Next time I'll make a better effort to start closer to the front, and I could have done even better. I crossed the start 44 sec. after the gun went off, and then spent the next 10 min ducking and dodging through walkers, kids & folks fiddling w/ ipods/watches/etc.

Slowest stand-alone 5k I've ever done. Man, I am out of shape. And the cough I picked up didn't seem to help. I wore my Canes Aaron Ward (4) jersey for the race, that I managed to get signed the day before. When he saw the jersey he commented that it was ancient, so I offered to trade him for the ring he was wearing. He didn't take me up on that.

But I mostly did it for the t-shirt. Also picked up a Cam Ward jersey and a Jeff Skinner jersey at the Eye after the race. Mrs. Fatmouse got the Skinner jersey signed on Fayetteville street a few hours later, probably the first All-Star jersey he signed. I got my hat signed too. The couple behind me in line at the signing were having him sign their race numbers, which I thought was cool. I did feel weird about waiting in line to have an 18 year old sign my hat.

After the Fan Fair, we went over to the Red Carpet arrival, thinking it would be easy to see people. But the rows were about 6 deep when we got there. Wow! After thinking we were going to leave we finally found a good spot and waited. I've got some great photos of the guys coming through and signing autographs. Even got my new Cam Ward All-Star jersey signed. Someone in the front row was nice enough to pass it along to him. Again, feel a bit weird about having people sign things, but it was a really cool event and atmosphere.

A kid next to me had a batch of hockey pucks and he was just beside himself when he got Tim Thomas to sign one. I thought he was going to pass out. That was really cool.

Now, off to the game tonight! I'll be wearing the Cam Ward jersey and Mrs. Fatmouse has the Skinner one.

Great to hear to awesome stories from the event.  I set a new PR for me at 29:19.  I am not the fastest in the world, but glad to have pushed to a new PR.

If anyone is interested, I wrote an entry on my blog about the event.  My blog address is in my signature.
