Sunny
Total Time = 1h 30m 32s
Overall Rank = 591/734
Age Group = 40-45
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

the night before: try to organize stuff and completely lose track of what I am doing. Talk about pre-race jitters! Up at 4:45 and ride to the race at 5:30. Talk with friends, the announcer, see hubby and son volunteering.
Event warmup:

Rode 3 miles to the race, splashed around in the water for a few minutes before the start.
Swim
  • 09m 54s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 15s / 100 yards
Comments:

didn't have anyone to draft on, but had plenty of wide open water. Didn't get smacked and didn't do any smacking either.
What would you do differently?:

uhmmmm.....swim faster??
Transition 1
  • 00m
Bike
  • 39m 18s
  • 10 miles
  • 15.27 mile/hr
Comments:

log jam at exit as some people were having trouble getting on to their bikes and getting clipped in. Once out of the parking lot I was hammering. Played cat and mouse with another woman for the whole 10 miles and we both had a great ride. I kept waiting for Max to catch me on the bike and when he never did I figured he must have passed me in the water.
What would you do differently?:

as youcan see, I went from # 448 out of the water to # 360 off the bike. Well, I am about to give it all up and then some on the run :(

Bike leg was great, I would do nothing differently.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

crowded transition area. I liked that tho, because usually there is no one around when I get there!
Run
  • 41m 19s
  • 3.5 miles
  • 11m 48s  min/mile
Comments:

gave up all of my time on the run. Need to work on that.
What would you do differently?:

lose a ton of weight and run faster??
Post race
Warm down:

grabbed water, ice cream, and a banana.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

my FAT ASS!

Event comments:

Hung around with Donna & Cheryl for awards ceremony. Took 2nd place Athena 40-49 and Cheryl took first. Donna would have had 3rd if she had raced! Now I'm getting the knee looked at next week and hope to work on my running.

Overall: 591 out of 734, and 24 out of 34 in my AG.

Way to go, Ellen. And I agree... get over yourself about the run! Your out their doing it aren't you???!? (o: You did great, Ellen!

BTW, can't believe your son is only 14 from that photo!

Dana

(Also, looking forward to seeing your Red Sox play at my ball park this weekend! I'm not sure that we are a worthy foe at this time, but still... I love my team!)

ellen,
you did a great race, having a great time is what it is all about!!! Glad to have met you and I think we swim neck and neck for a while until I got hit in the nose by someone and I saw stars. I had to take off after the bike, didn't have time to finish since the race started 25 minutes late, I actually did miss the boat but the kids didn't.
Hey it was agreat day and hope to see ya around the circuit, good luck on your knee

I'll stop beating myself up about my running if you'll stop beating yourself about your running!  LOL   Deal?

THE worst haircut ever.  I almost stayed home today because I had no paper bag to put over my head.  There will be NO pictures of this, that's for sure.  Yep, my baby is only 14, almost 6 feet tall and wears a 12.5 shoe, YIKES!

Glen, it was great to meet you. I cannot believe you found me on a beach full of people wearing wetsuits and swim caps.  I saw you trying to catch the ferry as I was finishing the race.  I was turning off of Old Town Rd onto Craigville Beach Rd and you were stuck in the line of cars.  I knew it was you because of the bike on the roof!  I'm sure we'll meet again, either at Falmouth or Hyannis II, right?

A very belated great job! I usually don't see sprints with 4 mi runs, and I would have to think hard about entering one. You did it. Well done.

don't worry about the DNF. You got that trying to catch a boat, not because you couldn't do the distance (like me showing up under-trained for a 1/2 IM in 2001, DNF). Come back to Hyannis in September and kick its butt!

Hey Ellen - what a great race for you.  Looks like a great place - I miss the cape which I haven't since college days - way back before you were even on the planet!
