Subject: Best Sprint Distance Races?
Hi!

So I'm changing my focus for this year and I'm going to really "race" the sprint distance.  I'm wondering which are your favourite sprint distance races and why?

I love Leamington - I make sure to fit it into my schedule every year....it's got a great "feel", it's a flat course and it's always well organized.

What are your "must do" sprint races?

Thanks!!!

Milton Sprint is a great race.  Challenging bike and run but a great course and well organized.  Great way to start the season.  I had some friends do Peterbourough and they thought is was a great race as well.

Welland has nice & flat run & bike, and a time trial swim start in the old Welland canal.

Orillia - it was my first Tri a Try, and I've gone back and raced the sprint each year since.  Like the other TriSport races, it's really well organized, great turnout, and it's a fun course (roads are a bit dodgy in a couple of sections, but overall is fine).

Belwood would be my favourite sprint distance. Except for a few rollers out on the bike course it's a flat and fast course.

Milton is my favorite sprint course, I just wish it was later in the year so that the swim was not so cold.

Lakeside for me. I loved it when MultisportCanada put on two Lakeside races in one year.

Its a perfect venue to take the family - playground, beach, food, horse farms, etc.
And the course is beautiful: warm lake, the bike course is in the middle of the country so there is little trafic, and the run is tranquil.

Hi All.  Milton, Bellwood, Orillia and Welland are all great races in their own right but none of them are true sprints.  Lakeside is, as is Guelph, Muskoka and Peterborough.

I have never raced Lakeside, but of the other three, I like Muskoka the best,  upcurrent swim (I think), ride and run are all hills on a Saturday afternoon.  Plus it's a nice warmup for the long course Sunday morning.

just my $.02 worth.

Chris

Lot  of good races out east (Ontario).
SMiths Falls, Carleton Place, Ottawa....check out Somersault.   Many of their races are in quaint interesting venues.

MY overall favouraite eastern ontario race is Carleton Place...followed by Meech Lake (mike Collingwood)that is in QC but in the QC really near the ON making it National Capital territory and honorary ON.

Carleton Place is a great race! I haven't raced there since 2001!! I didn't like the swim at Smith's Falls.

I heard the Meech Lake one is good!! Thanks!!

Meech Lake is awsome. Great event organizers (i am not one). Great food.  Beatiful course.
1200 m swim.  22 km hilly course.  6 km run.  It is set in the Gatineau Park and is a world class bike course.  It is very professional but has the old time tri feel which I love.  The swim is in waves established by 100 m time (as you report it). I actually bought someone's race number this year...I decided really late to do this race (night before)...and did not realize the person had reported a 2:30 100 m.   I am about a 1:20-25 swimmer.    I started from the last wave and got to practice my deeking skills for 1200 m.  Not so on the bike and run.

Anyways, if you are in the neighbourhood, early JUly, it's a great race and it's not going to leave you on the couch for two weeks after you're done.

The Toronto Island swim is gorgeous and the run is nicely varied terrain, but the bike is no good for racing. It's 3x an out-and-back with a ton of pedestrian traffic. It's an awesome sprint race to do for fun and fitness, but probably no good for hammering all-out.
