Subject: Garmin 310XT use indoors....
Has anyone found that the 310xt gets the date and time by acquiring Satellites?  I find this really annoying in the sense that when I use it indoors with the foot pod on the treadmill or in the pool for the swim that when you go to garmin connect to always has the date as 3/31/2007.  This makes the workout goto the end of the list in Garmin Connect and in training peaks you have to go back years to find the entry.  I have tried editing the date of the file in the name with no luck; any other ways around this issue?  I have tried to allow it to acquire a signal on the way to the gym but sometime I forget.  I have also found that if I leave to many workout on the same day it will get clogged and I can no longer reset by holding down the lap button.

Am I alone on this?

You can always edit it.

Agreed, but the worst part is once you edit the file in Garmin Connect the file is that is then imported into TP still has all of the old info; and you have to deal with the hokey user experience on TP to get the data; as the date always seems to be 3/31/2007.

This is not normal behavior for a 310XT - mine keeps time just fine indoors.
I'd contact Garmin support to see what they have to say about it.

Huh? I use mine regularly inside and turn off the GPS for roller rides three/four times a week. It still keeps good time.

Call Garmin

Very interesting.  It seems that the only time that mine knows the date and or time is after it has connected to the Satellites.  Garmin, tech support is awesome I will have to give them a call.  This is a replacement 310 that they sent me as my old one started going crazy.

I use my 310XT all over, inside, outside, swimming, biking... (full time foot pod, cept for the swimUndecided".  It does sync up for Time date update but I can only recall once in the last year when it lost time/date.  My uploads to Garmin Connect have always been current chronologically.

I have had a great experience with Garmin's Customer Service.

I did have that problem and a host of others when I first got mine.  I sent it in and they sent me a new one.  I still have the problem with my HR not being completely captured when I run on a TM with the satellite disconnected, but everything else is fixed.

Never had this problem on a 310xt that was switched from indoor to out consistently, or on my 705 that has been indoor only (and hasn't acquired satellites for months)

One thing I thought of, you do have the latest firmware loaded on the watch correct?

Not getting the correct time on non-sat workouts is a semi-common problem.  Assuming a firmware doesn't solve it (update), a quick call to Garmin support and they'll get it fixed or swapped out.

It's not normal though, and they'll fix it quickly.

Thanks everyone!  My 310 had the newest firmware and after a call to garmin (who has the best customer support in the world) my new 310 is on its way.  They seemed very stumped as to what was going on!

I have the same issue and after I googled it I realized that it is a common problem for these 310xt's. I will have to give garmin a call or take it back to rei for a replacement.

I spoke to an Engineer at Garmin today. Apparently the time issue is a known problem. They offered to RMA the unit, but said there is no guarantee that a replacement will fix the problem, though some watches appear to work Ok. They will be releasing a firmware update in the near future to address and fix this issue.

The new unit arrived from Garmin and the glitch in the matrix has passed!  Garmin is one standup company from a Customer Service perspective!  Good on ya Garmin!
