Anybody else going to be racing this weekend? If the weather is not too nasty I'll be doing the Smelt Run 10k in LaConner. Very flat course and LaConner is a nice place to wander around and eat afterwards.

I will be participating in a Duathlon at Fort Steilacoom in Lakewood. 2nd time for this event and hopefully will do much better than the last time.

I completed the duathlon today at Fort Steilacoom. Start of race was approx 18 to 20 degrees with 2 to 3 inches of snow.

1st run was ok, when a bit slower as traction wasn't the best. Wish I had brought my Yaktrax with me

The cold and the snow made the race absolutely brutal. Loved sliding all over the place during the run and MTB course. Dumped the MTB once during the race when I hit a frozen rut and front tire kicked out. By the 2nd lap on the MTB course, the mud and the slush started in. Couldn't get the front derailleur to work as it was clogged with mud and snow. 3rd lap was a combination of a frozen slushy mud bog

The last run was ok other than the muscle cramps in the calves

I may rethink this race next year if it snows again. The cold and snow made the course rough and brutal.

If anyone is racing on Sunday, dress warm and good luck

Yesterday's race was cold and snowing but made for a really fun experience. While not terribly fast, I negative split my 10k by a minute and felt strong throughout. Might do a half marathon next Saturday. Weather should be much better.

Yes. I'll be doing the Honeywagon run. If I come to my senses before Saturday I might just do the 4-mile run. I ran the 4-mile a couple of years ago. It is a really great local race.

Went for drive up to Everson to drive the HM course this evening. Trying to psych myself up to actually doing it. Was also a good excuse for dinner at Niemann's Steakhouse. If you've ever been there you know what I'm talking about. Yumm.

What a beautiful morning. Sun was out, temps moderate, slight breeze. Perfect day for a run. Overall had a great race. My goal was to hit my run time for HIM coming up in three months. Was right there. Felt really strong through 10 miles and the wheels started to fall off the wagon at 12 miles but shuffled through. It was such a nice afternoon I wanted to go for a ride but alas I'm not getting out of the hot tub and beer is being served to me continuously. Hope everyone is enjoying there weekend.

I'm starting to come back from career distraction. After 6 weeks of long days in Everett I changed companies and have been on the learning curve the last two weeks. Starting to get exercise & training back into the field of vision again and got a hilly neighborhood 5k in this morning. So, I'm ready for the Cove to Clover next Sunday in Burien. Nice little 5k with a big hill out of the gate, http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/26255990, followed by a nice little Irish Party in downtown Burien, which is also followed by a nice little St Patty's Day party at a brother's house nearby. I grew up in Burien after moving here from Wyo and graduated HS at Highline. These are my old stompin' grounds and I'm really looking forward to this.

I had a go at the "Rainman" indoor tri at Greenlake today.

Everyone swims 15 minutes in the pool, rides their own bike on a trainer for 30 minutes with a computer hooked up to it, and then runs around the lake.

They take your swim and bike pace and figure out how fast you would have gone over the standard sprint tri distances, while your run time is your actual time to get around the lake.

I thought it was a fun event and a great idea for someone's first tri. A little hectic in there at the pool though... but well run overall.

I am also doing that race, and will be volunteering at packet pickup on Friday, too (say hi if you stop by!).  I think I know at least thirty people running in it, I have to be careful not to socialize too much and remember that I am trying to PR!!

Did the RainMan too. Fun event, but holy cow was the pool hot, and holy cow does riding on a trainer on a pool deck make you sweat! Super fun even though! Anxious to see results.

Leslie,

I will see you on Friday at Mr Crampy's as that was the day I had planned on picking up my race packet. Since I live in the south end, it gave me an excuse to take a day of vacation.

Good luck during the race. Have you set a goal for the race yet? My goal is to maintain an 8 minute per mile pace and beat my Seattle 1/2 Marathon time at 1:49.

If you have run the course before let me know what your thoughts of the run.

Take care

I'm hoping to beat my PR of 1:56 by any amount.  I haven't actually sat down and come up with a plan!  I probably ought to do that.  I'll hope to run each mile a little bit faster, that tends to work for me as long as I don't sprint at the beginning!  I run on that route ALL THE TIME and I can say this:  IT IS TOTALLY FLAT!!  It is packed gravel for most of it, with asphalt probably near the beginning and the end, maybe one mile on each end.  I am not completely sure where it is stopping and finishing...but that is what I know that this point.  I've been training my body to run faster when I get to the last three miles of every run at the end of that trail...hopefully it kicks in for race day!  Please say howdy for sure at packet pickup.  I don't know what shift I'll be working at this point since it goes on all day.  I'll update here when I figure that out.

I'm doing the Birch Bay 15k on Saturday.  I don't think 'racing' is the right term, but I'll be there and I'll be running.

I may end up running the Birch Bay race too. I originally planned on running but decided I didn't want to pay $50. Looked at the Lake Sammamish Half as an alternate but it was even more money plus gas so I guess I'll have to just pay to play. I did the 5k a few years ago and had fun.

Just jumping in with an FYI that I met the RD while running last week and he said the race was ending at the velodrome. (Dunno if he meant IN the velodrome!) I sooooo want to run this race, as I have never raced a flat 1/2. Alas, my husband is out of town and I can't bring myself to pay a babysitter $60 so I can pay another $60 to run a trail I run all the time, ha! Good luck!!
