Bike route is NOT blocked off but a good course, nice rollers, etc. They do the best they can to control the traffic but the roads are not closed, you have the standard Police assistance, etc.

LOoks like they reversed the direction of the run this year as compared to last.. looks the same otherwise though.

Pretty smooth operation last year though.

Musicman, how many halfs have you done?  What shape are you in?  How competitive are you?  Do you want to have fun or post really good numbers at your first tri?

ADPiathlon is a great first tri if you aren't really trashed by a half.  My running chops have improved to the point I can do a half and not feel like it the next day.  If that's you, then standing and watching others do this tri will make you wish you'd participated.  But if you're going to beat yourself up mentally if you don't do your best or have good times, then just come watch and cheer us on!

Remember this is a 300 meter swim, so you have 28 more yards.  I remember the water was really warm last year.

I'm confused.  According to the MTSU REC-Center website, the pool is 25 yards long and 36 yards wide.  I assume each lane would be about 3 yards wide making 12 lanes total.  If it's a snake swim this would be exactly 300 yards (25 x 12).  Where do the 28 more yards come into play?

they have it listed as a 300 Meter swim vs. 300 yds, which is what I believe Terry is referring to. Maybe they mistakenly put meter vs. yds..

This is my 4th year running so I've done several. Last year I did 4 halfs. I have until Wednesday to pre-register or I may wait and see how I feel Saturday afternoon. I don't care about my time, I just want to give it a try. Heck I'm not even sure my swim aspect is ready but it's not as if I'm going to drown.

I think you should go for it!  It's a small crowd, it's very flat, and the distances are shorter than some of the other local sprints.  Just stretch out well after the Oak Barrel (I hear there's a sizeable hill), do you do the ice bath thing (?), and wake up Sunday and say to yourself "Self, I think I'll go for a little swim today, then maybe I'll ride my bike a bit, then perhaps a 3.14 mile jog to finish my day!"

It'll be a nice way to get your feet wet in this whole tri business.

Looks like we are rolling down there and bringing a couple people with us.

Are we going full mankini's for this early season race?

Thongs.  One criteria - you must be 60 to 100 lbs overweight to wear one.

I'm definitely bringing my camera now. I do have a speedo that used to fit me 8 years ago...

Now I have a question about the bike course.  Is the first half mile of the bike course the same as last year?  What I'd like to know is how they handle the outbound and return traffic on the same road for the last half mile?  Since the basic loop is clockwise, that means that if the cyclists are staying to the right they cross each other at the intersection of Alumni Dr and City View Dr.

The fastest riders should take about 25 minutes to finish.  That would be somewhere around 29 minutes after race start for the first rider.  The swimmers, if they start 5 seconds apart can go 12 per minute.    Perhaps the last athletes will be out of T1 and past the 1/2 mile mark before then?

The low on Saturday night is 44 so it will probably be 50 degrees at best by the time we hit the road on our bikes.  It will be a chilli ride coming right out of the water.

So I read that we have to check in even after we've picked up our packets? What's that all about?

Not sure, but you've also got to show a Photo ID.  The only thing I can think of is that they want to be sure the same person who picked up the packet is the same person who's racing.

It'll probably be warmer than it was last year coming out of the water.. I remember driving over there on 840 and was hitting some areas where it was in the low 30s.. was like WTF!

fingers crossed.

I'll be watching for everyone around the entrance to the rec-center with BT on my arm after the event.  Best of luck to everyone.  Try not to run me over!

Yeah, I remember the thermometer on my vehicle hitting 32 on the way to the race from Frankln last year.  I honestly don't remember getting cold on the bike though.  I did wear a jersey during the swim and on the bike (i.e. - wet).  Too much adrenalin to notice it, I guess.

threw a jersey on last year before the bike, probably going to pass on that this year and just do the suit.

Well I ran Oak Barrel today, 1:57:53, which is a PR. I'm thrilled. I'm feeling pretty good so unless I wake up in the morning unable to move, I'll be there. It may not be pretty but I'll finish.

Will be in a a red/white shirt.
