Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Totally off topic, but I had to throw this out here because it sent my B.S. alarm off into overdrive. I need to preface this by adding that I'm not some kind of movie fanatic either. This just set me off because it's a perfect example of people overlooking the obvious. I saw on Drudgereport this morning: and it basically says that the Chairman of Disney is talking about releasing DVD's similtaneously with theater releases, which would be a huge move. I'd be all for it! On the other hand, the head of the Theaters guild is saying that it would virtually assure the death of the theater industry. He blames the box office slump on bad movies this summer. Hollywood has been putting the same crap out every year, in my opinion, and I love crappy movies! Hell, I own Orgazmo on DVD! lol People seem to be overlooking the obvious problem.......NOBODY WANTS TO PAY $12 TO GO SEE A MOVIE!!!!!!! I'd rather buy the DVD for $15 and watch it at home on my own TV where I can drink a beer and my wife isn't freezing to death. By the time I take my wife to a movie, shell out for tickets and popcorn and drinks we're out $35! I could fill 1/3 of my gas tank with that (j/k)! Ok, I'm done with my tirade now. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Exactly. I either go to the matinee or I don't go. And even then... man. Movie tickets are getting close to the same price as live theater - and if I have to pick one, guess which one I'm going with? |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() You say that like there's something wrong with having Orgazmo on DVD. It's probably one of the most original films to come out of Hollyweird in ages... that and the Jay and Silent Bob Saga's. 35 bucks gets you a third of a tank?!!? Lucky... Go Redhawks (or Redskins, depending on when you graduated). bts |

When I bought the car under 2 years ago it was only $15 to fill it up! I was a redskin as a freshman, and a redhawk starting sophomore year. Screw that, redskins forever! Orgazmo is truly quality cinema! "And Choda boy!" Edited by dibujob 2005-08-19 11:18 AM |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I agree, they don't see the big picture. They keep raising ticket prices and food prices. They cut out the refills when you bought the large items. (Actually a good thing for my fat butt) Now they have cut the matinee times. The theatres I normally go to stop matinee prices at 4 pm. Since they messed with the matinee prices, we have stopped going but maybe once a month. My wife and I used to go to the movies 4-6 times a month. Netflix is now my friend. If only they would allow me to check out more than 3 movies at a time. |

Resident Curmudgeon ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Yep, even at the matinee, the three boys and I (wife doesn't do many movies), popcorn and coke (we share, free refills on both w/large size) comes to nearly $30. We can buy most DVDs for ~$15. |

![]() | ![]() ChuckyFinster, I am glad my hubby doesn't hang out here. That would almost convince me to go for the plasma TV that my husband fantasizes about. Seriously, we've been to 1-2 movies this summer b/c there's just nothing worth spending that much money on. Our rates just increased again too, so I have implemented the "matinee only" rule. |

He's retiring at the end of the year by the way. bts |

You can get a 60" rear projection for 2 g's and my 42" plasma only ran me about 1300. But like you said, it's a good thing he doesn't hang around here. bts |

![]() | ![]() Momentary hijack... What's this redskin/redhawk change you speak of? It happened to a school I went to once...could it be the same one??? Oh, and hubs wants the 3K plasma. He more about electronics and cars than our salaries can handle. |

For example, when the final Star Wars came out, it was worthy of an event and we went and saw it. Penguins is not an event, so we will not see (suffer through) it until it is out on DVD. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The last movie I saw was that penguin thing (pretty good, some penguins die, some kids, mine inclued, cry. Baby penguins are adorable) but that was because it was on the big screen and on my TV it would not be the same. Other than that I can wait for it to come to DVD anytime. There is not a movie in the last 5 years I could not wait for. To take my brood to the theater, and we are only talking about the ones who can self ambulate, costs upwards of $50.00 bucks with crap to eat. I just cannot stomach it. For 50 bucks we can go to Planet Rock and rock climb all afternoon. |

When we go, we almost always go to the Matinee. And we almost never get popcorn or drinks. Sometimes I've been known to bring my own water bottle, especially if I'm working on my pre-race hydration. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I cried too but I didn't want to be the first to post it. When that little penguin froze to death and the Mom was scratching at it I was sobbing. My son, on the other hand, cried when the Momma penguin got eaten by the seal. He was in distress thinking the Mom was not going home to her baby and the baby would die without her. His worst fear is me dying, my worst is him (well any of them really). |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Every weekend, bf and I want to go out and see a movie. Unfortunately, there's nothing good out there to see! We ended up biking instead. I am tired of the blame game between the studio and the exhibitors. They both suck. Hell, I own Orgazmo on DVD! Orgazmo is not crappy. It's funny! Those South Park guys are talented! Batman and Robin, now that's a worthless POS. Edited by Denise2003 2005-08-21 10:03 AM |
