2011 Subaru Forester - I can put the tri bike in upright (front wheel off and seat post down or off), and still sleep in the back when i'm travelling solo. Yay car tenting!

Going to build a bike board with fork mount to lay across back of trunk next so I can have it locked inside, and less bungie cording.

Mine is a Honda Element. Had it since 2004 and now have over 100,000 miles on it. Room to carry my bike and other stuff inside where it is protected from the weather and other cars. Used it to camp in when traveling to TRIs in the region several times. My wife calls it my "mobile locker room". Always have it packed and ready to go, whether it is just for a ride after work or a Tri halfway across country.

2002 Toyota Camry - I think everyone knows what one of those looks like. With the back seats folded down, I can fit two bikes and their riders in it (taking off the front wheels on the bikes of course).

But I've already declared that I'm buying by dad's '85 VW bus...

rsmoylan - 2011-05-19 1:51 PM I rock a honda civic, but with a 4 year old and all my gear I have been able to convince my wife that we need the honda minivan.  I'm so excited I can hardly contain it.......I can't believe that I just typed that.  Embarassed

I'm a stay at home dad.  My ride is an F250 and I am begging my wife to agree to a minivan.  She's fighting me tooth and nail.  In about 30 minutes we're going to test drive a Honda Odyssey.

For utility moving around gear and kids you just can't beat them.

I know that's what I've heard about the Odyssey.  I just don't want my bike to ride outside of the car anymore.

I never thought I would go with a minvan but after our 2nd was born we bought an Odyssey.  Over 100,000 miles and almost 10-years later we are still driving it.  Well, mostly my wife drives it but it's a great vehicle!  Road trips, skiing, camping, and yes we even fit my bike, gear and bags for a family of 4 to drive to Redman a couple years ago.  You won't regret buying one.

I drive a Trooper.  It carries my bike and gear inside.  If I need to carry multiple bikes I have a Yakima a can easily attach to the hitch.

I lost.  She killed it.  Said she won't ride in a minivan -- EVER!

My bike rides safely in the back of my Toyota Sienna mini van. Don't have to take the wheel off, never gets wet, can easily fit another bike. I really love my van - I'm serious!

2010 Yukon XL, bikes inside or out along with everything and anything else (when not toting the 4 kids and two dogs). Hauled 6 bikes, 7 people and all our gear for 3 days of Ragbrai...love it. BUT, last fillup was $115....thinking it is time to get a mini cooper.

Just upgraded to a Mazda CX-7 for the sole purpose of putting my gear in the back without hassle.

Right now I drive a Japanese made Mitsubishi Dion (we call her Celine Laughing) but when the Navy sends us home between November and January I'll be driving a Escalade ESV (my Dad has moved to a new car and gave me a killer deal.

I drove this beast to IMLP last year and it was great.  With the now 4 kids, two adults, dog, bike, and bags it is either this size vehicle or two cars to travel.

Comical to see the people with truck/suv wanting smaller n smaller wanting bigger. Love my truck but $4 @ 25gallons 3x a week is just dirty.

Why all the angst about getting a minivan? A minivan with a tri bike stowed inside has a bit of a Clark Kent flavor -- unassuming exterior, with a sleek, aerodynamic machine hidden inside.

We love our Honda Odyssey, which we've had for 9 years. And it's great for bike transportation.

Looks just like this.  Basic 2004 Mazda3 5-dr.  Hauls the bike easily with the front wheel off.

I recently bought a 2007 Pontiac Vibe (basically a Toyota Matrix dressed as a Pontiac)

car1

car2

The rear seats fold down and there is a surprisingly large amount of room.  I bought some rubber-backed carpet as well as a 2x4 and a rattle can of black and this is what I was able to whip up.  The 2x4 secures to a track in the rear of the seats so its completely removable.  Otherwise the seats fold upright just fine with the carpet and 2x4 in place.  As you can see, I have to remove the seat/seat post and front wheel, but its a lot better having it secured INSIDE the car than exposed on the roof or something (imo). I can't complain, plenty of room for the rest of my gear and 30+ mph
