Did you see the press release about the new event added to the Maple Grove tri?  The TriStar series is coming to town.  If I read this right, this is their first race in the US.

You can read the press release on the MG Tri web site:  http://www.maplegrovetriathlon.com/

I am signed up for the Olympic, so I have contacted the RD about switching.  On their facebook page they said this was okay.  I really like the idea of putting so much emphasis on the bike!

Anyone else?

This sounds pretty cool.  Wonder if it fits in the schedule?

It's only two weeks before IMWI. I am guessing that's too close for you?  Although you could do it as a training day with a nice long supported bike ride

I think the distances are cool: 1k swim, 100k bike, 10k run.  It puts it more into reach for many, without having to do the super long swim and half marathon like at a HIM.  But you will definitely get a chance to get the "feel" of a HIM with the longer bike.

That is exactly what I'm thinking.

I will be racing Lakes Country Tri in Baxter that weekend.  The new distance does nothing for me as I place best in the swim relative to the field, so would want a LONGER swim, not shorter.  The distance seems really odd to me - a Sprint swim, longer than a HIM bike, and an Oly run...weird.  Seems like only a bunch of bikers could think this up!

I read your post and checked out the maple grove triathlon website. Their website makes it seem that they are changing the Olympic event. However, I wanted to learn more about this Star Event group and went to their site. Based on this link, they are not changing the Olympic distance but rather adding a 3rd event.  So now it looks like you can choose from Spring, Olympic, and Euro Olympic (100k bike).

I'm curious what route they are going to have for the 62 miles. Haven't seen anything posted yet.

I wonder about the bike route, too.  Maybe they will do the Oly route twice with an extra bit added on?  Hope it's not too hilly!  In fact, I better check on that before switching...

Maybe they should just start offering the races a la carte.  When you register you can choose what distance you feel like completing for each discipline.  Maybe I'll swim the HIM distance, bike the HIM distance, and run the Sprint distance.  Or maybe swim the HIM distance, bike 100k, then run the Oly distance.

Perhaps I should have just put this entire post in red font...

Great!

I decided to just stick with the Olympic after all. But I am very curious to see how the 111 goes, especially to see Macca race.

Registration is available for the TriStar111 - http://www.star-events.cc/site/en/tristar-minnesota/signup/signup111

$175 for Individuals

$275 for Relays

That's too rich for my blood this year, but it should be a good show.   It'll be nice to have another high-profile race in the area.
