kuotaguy - 2011-06-08 2:55 PM The Marriott Woodlands has opened reservations for Ironman weekend. There is a block of rooms at a discounted rate for Ironman racers too. Just FYI Tj

Thanks for the information! I have been calling at least once a week to see when they were going to start taking reservations. They gave me a specific group reservation number to call 800 266 9432

Thanks for the information on the hotel.

I'm in... for my second IM. My first was in 2008. This IM is all about getting a better finishing time.

Was this the host hotel Marriot, or the Residence Inn Marriot? Both are fairly close to everything.

Host Hotel Marriott ... I also talked with the Residence Inn Market Street today and they said that they have a block of rooms reserved for WTC folks but wont open the remainder of their room inventory for race weekend until January.

Yeah I tried online for the host hotel and said nothing was available but that makes more sense if only a block is available and they haven't even put everything else up yet.

*** warning- I am just feeling sorry for myself

Oh boy-

I hate to say it, but I may need to pull out.  With the cuts in education my wife lost her position in our disctrict and was placed as a classroom teacher (we are very happy she is still working).  The school is over an hour one way.  With 2 boys ages 4 and 9 months I will need to take them to daycare and pick them up.  My wife would not be in 100% as she was this year and I am afraid life would suffer if I still persude my goal of beating my time this year (10:42).

I already did night and 3:45am workouts when she was able to do more, but this would be for the entire training and I just do not think my body could keep up.  This is just my first response without talking to her about.  I know I could just get by with training, but it is more important to race ready and not worry about injury or a hospital trip from over doing it on race day.

edit:  I could always use this year to learn to swim faster

Dude that sucks.  However, don't count yourself out just yet.  Give it some time, crunch the numbers and talk to the wife.  I think you'll find a way to get it done.  Focusing on quality instead of quantity workouts is one way you can cut back on weekly training hours.  Good luck and let us know if you need anything.

For what it's worth, I had an injury last year and used the time to learn to swim faster, I ended up having a personal low IM swim time.  stupid pool, stupid, stupid pool.

I know I am jumping to conclusions.  I already have a marathon the first weekend of March with my wife, so adding some cycling should not be that hard

It sold well over half in the first week according to the director. I would imagine the entries slow for a while but it's gotta be close at this point. My advice is to pull the trigger. If it sells out in the morning and you didn't get in, then you will have 10 months of kicking yourself. If you sign up and later decide you can't, then you lose about 400 bucks (forgot what the exact refund is) and STILL end up in the best shape of your life with all that training trying to get there.

Yeah that has been my worry. Talked with the wife for a while today and not only signed up for this but also the Rev 3 full at Cedar Point in September. Time to get working.

Woohoo! The crew grows larger--I'm till trying to recruit some other friends, so we'll see!! It's going to be a great race. Never to early to start the chit chatting either.  Shermbelle and I just did IMCdA and that BT Crew thread was AMAZING and made for a super fun race experience!  Definitely excited about it--after I get through IMAZ! Glutton for punishment!

I am looking forward to the race again.  It is going to be much harder for me to train this year with my wifes new work schedule.  I was thinking of pulling the plug when she told me her new school, but after I told her we would lose 550 dollars she said, "it looks like we will find away to make it work, but do not try to beat last years time".  Yeah right.

I road with a local tri group last week and they all speculate the bike course will change.    I hope it does not because crossing highway 105 is where the better riding is and the rolling elevation changes are.

I am missing the local half here in Novemebr, but I will be training for a March marathon with my wife and trying to get my swim a bit faaster.  I may even throw in some of Jorge's winter cycling plan to raise my FTP.  It all sounds so good right now

After successfully completing my first 70.3 (Buffalo Springs), I think I have what it takes to try to Ironman.  I'm in for Texas 2012!  I'll be looking forward to getting tips on how to train for this thing.

Welcome--and Buffalo Springs is no easy first HIM for sure (it was my first back in '08 as well--thankfully we didn't have the heat you guys had this year!)!! Welcome to the crew here. We have several first timers and a whole bunch of veteran IM'ers.  It's never to early to start asking questions!

Two questions, so what are the speculated changes on the bike course? Anything you have heard or how it would change it, ie hillier, or more open to wind? And also what marathon you looking at in March? I want a winter one not sure how early of winter or closer to spring.

@Champion - it looks like they have a new Woodlands marathon on March 3  http://thewoodlandsmarathon.com/

However,I would be weary of that one because if they run the course on that same concrete as they run the IM course, you might take too much of a beating before the Ironman.  Little Rock is that weekend as well if you want hills and a big medal.  One of my favorite marathons is that weekend as well - Napa Valley Marathon.  If you can swing the trip to CA, you will not regret doing that race!

I'm a newbie to Ironman, but I've run a ton of marathons and I know I wouldn't want to try anything serious for at least 4 weeks after marathon.  I'm making my last marathon before the IM be either the Houston Marathon (in January) or the Surfside beach marathon (in February and on sand).

Any experienced IM'ers have a perspective on "training marathons?"

PURE SPECULATION, but I think it would be a 2 loop course and not crossing over hwy105 would take the hills out.  I personaly would not want to come up with a new course because the one we rode last year was nice.  I am a bit biased because I rode the north portion of the course almost every weekend for 4 months.  Like I said, I have not heard from any crediable people (maybe TJ will chime in) so take this for what its worth.

I am running The Woodlands marathon as a previous poster mentioned.  They have not released the course map, but I doubt it would be the same as IMTX because it would be real tight with 8-10000 people.
