The backpack as super cool.  Like the St. George ones but say Texas obviously.  There are a couple water bottles in there.  They have a very nice expo with lots of stores offering their wares.

Stop by the booth that The Woodlands has set up and get a bag from them TONS of coupons and super useful maps and info

I apologize if this has been talked about before - I did a quick scan and didn't see it...

Run course. I'm looking at the map and feel only dumber after doing so. I tried to map it out on gmap and am fine, I think, on the first and second loops, but the finish is confusing.

The turn by turn directions aren't much more helpful. It mentions "To complete second and third loop continue on the Waterway Path System"...how do we complete the first loop? (I'm assuming perhaps they meant to put first and second loop there?). Then, they say "After third loop, turn right on to Water Way Square Place to the finish line" - is that after you run back onto Lake Robbins drive and U-turn? From the map it is hard to tell...also points out "2nd and 3rd lap" on the actual map indicating where you come back down onto the waterway and do the out and back turning around at the 8th water stop. Again, should this be first and second loop instead? Does the third loop not do the out and back, and just go straight to the finish? In that case, I would presume the third loop is shorter than the first two by a decent bit.

  • ..had my question answered on facebook. Thought I'd share here in case anyone was there last year and has the same question. It has moved a bit SE of where it was last year.

  • I'm finally getting excited - took a while!!

Where exactly is it? Roads or landmarks will be helpful on which exit to take.

    *****FRIENDLY REMINDER******

I will be holding a sign that says, "Beginner Triathlete", outside of the athlete dinner. I will probably be there 4:45-5:00 ish. It is a decent size and high-vis yellow, so you should see it.

I will also be holding that same sign on Friday, during the practice swim. Except for when I am swimming. Then it will be on my stuff.

Look for the sign so we can meet other BTers!

Just picked up my packet - backpacks are Cool - however, check to make sure your backpack says "Ironman TEXAS".  The first backpack I got said "Ironman St George".  (While I would love to say I did St George - especially this year, I really want one that say's TEXAS!).  I went back and got the TEXAS backpack. (Couldn't keep both )

Also, didn't get a swim cap - Just heard there was a mix up and these will be handed out at either the Bike check in or before the race on Saturday.

    It's time!!

I didn't get a swim cap either.  Didn't realize it til later.

RE the run course I am confident there will be plenty of people in front of me to follow

What time should we meet for the swim?  8am?  I rode most of the run course today I think.  Nice shady trail................if I did it right.  Holy McMansions batman there are some HUGE houses here.  Like 10,000-15,000 square foot monstrosities.

Also it is one mile from transition to the swim start.  Clocked it on my bike

Been a super smooth day for me, flights were ahead of schedule, breezed through the expo getting signed up and yes the backpacks are sweet. Only downer was tribike transport wasn't going to be ready for a little bit so I will get my bike in the morning.

Shot over to the hotel and then now I am up in Dallas for the Rangers game. Super quick just under 3 hrs to get here. Looking forward to the dinner and meeting some peeps tomorrow.

Anyone see they just changed the bike/run course up? Looks like we will have a longer run after the swim. I can not zoom in enough to figure it out. They also said IMTX 2013 registration will not open until after meeting with officials. I wonder if they want to change date or if the township is fighting the event?

I saw the transition area this am.  Its less than 100 yards from swim exit to the tent.  This is a prety hoity toity development/community.  I am pretty shocked they allowed the race to be staged here and I am sure ther are lots of pissed off rich texans on race day

did today my final 30mile ride from mile 65 to 95.

with N-wind it felt quite good, but i guess when the wind changes it will be a bit tougher. personally i think that the hills are nowhere a problem - neiter up in the north nor at mount mariah rd. But what really slows the speed is the surface - the chipseal roads are way slower.

@ athlete check in: i was positively suprised - no parking problems, no traffic jams and also the for the pick up there was no queue.

how is it on race day - i like the idea to let the supporter wait in the car, while preparing the t1 and then continue by car to the parking place close to the swim start - any experience from last year - will there be a traffic chaos in the morning ? then it might be better (= faster ) to walk.

GOOD LUCK to everybody for Saturday & have FUN !

    cheers,erwin

They clearly don't have it all together - what's up with course changes this late? Shame they cut out Mt. Mariah Rd, that part was a lot of fun.

Also, with the delayed registration I can't help but think they will lose some of that initial interest they would have had the day after the race.  It should be interesting to find out what is really going on.

So is that the new location? I would guess so... if you saw it. The email they sent out about it changing was weird... and I couldn't see the details to really know what was changed. Hum.

I believ this is the section with the bridges so probably had something to do with it. I haven't looked at the new map so what did they add?

I will be at the swim by 9:00 AM.

Yes, I have seen the area and parts of the swim, run and all of the bike course. With regards to the swim and run, I have NO CLUE how they got those people in the rich part of town to agree to hosting this race.
