Total Time = 1h 32m 30s
Overall Rank = 75/453
Age Group = Clydesdales
Age Group Rank = 4/20
Pre-race routine:

Drank gatorade, walked around, talked to Kenny, went to bathroom, rested.
Event warmup:

Jumped in water to acclimate. No real warmup.
Swim
  • 17m 14s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 06s / 100 yards
Comments:

12/45 in 30-34 age group
101/453 overall
What would you do differently?:

Swim harder -- held back a bit too much. Also panicked a bit when I couldn't see second buoy because of sun. Had to stop too many times...
Next time, I'd just keep going.

Had a couple of bad bumps & sandwiches. Felt nauseated after swallowing water.
Transition 1
  • 08m 57s
Comments:

Was dizzy after getting out of water. Had to sit for a minute to recover. 1/2 mile run to bike was a bit too slow.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster to transition. Hop on bike faster -- run with bike.
Bike
  • 42m 37s
  • 13.6 miles
  • 19.15 mile/hr
Comments:

A lot of rule violations, particularly people riding side by side. Was hard to pass at times because of people across the whole lane of the road.

Still, did pretty good considering that I could have probably done better had I known course, rules, etc better.

Stomach still felt queasy from swim. Was it the ingested lake water???
What would you do differently?:

Was too scared to pass multiple people at a time because I didn't understand rules enough -- Held back WAY too much for the first half. Could have probably done it 3-5 mins faster.
Transition 2
  • 01m 32s
Comments:

Plastic cleats slipped too much on pavement on hill going into transition. Had to walk bike too slowly.
What would you do differently?:

Run bike a bit faster.
Run
  • 22m 9s
  • 2.65 miles
  • 08m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

Stomach felt pretty bad until about 1/2 way, at which point pace picked up to about 7:30. Still not great, but more normal. Lungs didn't feel well -- had a hard time getting oxygen because of a cold.
What would you do differently?:

Drink water instead of Gatorade. Run faster...
Post race
Warm down:

Walked the transition area. Sat down and rested. Ate bagel, gatorade, water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Stomach and lungs didn't feel right. Probably from water I drank during swim and the cold I have.

Not bad at all for first triathlon. Hopefully next will be even better!

Event comments:

Seemed pretty well organized. Course was well marked. Transition area was well marked. Plenty of help on the course.

The short run was tough but I thought the race was well run. I would also suggest they have more than two shuttles running at the same time. That lead for quite the wait for my spectators to get back to the car. Fun, fun race.
